One or two people recently have asked whether they should get their pre-school children a dog for Christmas. I have received a violation for answering one which 'insulted her intelligence'. I answered on the same level as the question. Anybody else agree a Dog is for Life and Not Just for Christmas?

Thanks Lizard - I really thought she wasn't seriously considering buying her child a German Shepherd. I think she might have been trying to provoke!

Not with anyone who knows what their talking about, he's not. Frankly DogDoc you're not here often enough.
There are other people who I notice constantly get a thumbs down seconds after posting their answer even though I've yet to see them give bad advice.

We all get people follow us on this site, we all get violations and we all get thumbs down for correct answers.
Think of this place as the school library in dinner hour without the librarian and it makes more sense!

Years ago my mom got us a puppy, (Maltese), yeah we loved him for a time but mom became his primary caretaker. He lived 18 years and my mom was reluctant to let him go.I read this, even though I got a Christmas puppy, ( that has been with me for 10 years now) I have received a lot of violation notices but none that said I insulted someones intelligence. A dog is for life, Guess parents need to teach their children the importance/responsibility of having a pet.

YOU ARE CORRECT ANY PET IS FOR LIFE YOU HAVE A OBLIGATION TO THAT PET FOR THE REST OF ITS LIFE NOT JUST FOR THE DAY THAT IS WHY SO MANY END UP ON DEATH ROW AT THE ASPCA SOME PEOPLE DON'T HAVE INTELLIGENCE SO AS FOR INSULTING IT I DON'T BELIEVE IT IS POSSIBLE BUT IN THIS CASE MAYBE YOU WERE THE ONE WHO WASN'T USING YOUR HEAD AFTER ALL SHE APPARENTLY HAD ENOUGH BRAINS TO ASK FOR A SECOND OPINION INSTEAD OF JUST GIVING IN AND GETTING A DOG THAT WOULD NOT RECEIVE THE LOVE AND CARE IT DESERVED WHAT DO YOU THINK DOG DOC ?

You are right, a dog or pet is for life. If a child is not old enough to be able to take care of the dog, it should be for the family. If a small child gets a dog an drops it on its head it could kill it. So a small child should not get a tiny dog, if they are going to get one it should be a bigger dog.

Totally agree, dogs are not accessories. Its a big commitment taking on a dog, and breeders, dog shelters ect should make really sure that the people/person who is getting a dog from them understand this.
