That's awful! Didn't the lady who had the healthy baby that supposedly died get to look at the baby that the other woman now had? Wouldn't she have recognised him?

What a fascinating story, it probably happened a lot. Although it is sad for the woman who's child was switched she might still have a chance of tracing him and what a miracle for the woman who's baby died. How about going to the local registry office and asking who was registered in the same week...they might help. What sort of year are you talking? How old would this person be now? It's sad but the baby may have gone on to have a wonderful life, he could be someone famous now. Good Luck and keep us informed

I almost feel bad for giving the following advice:
If your economic situation(s) isn't that great, there might be a potentially lucrative lawsuit against the hospital or state (county) where you live.
Follow the advice of the other posters and get a DNA test to see who the biological parents are. If there was in fact a mixup, the lawsuit is pretty much in the bag. You might get millions.
Of course the emotional trauma will be severe to all parties involved. But hopefully your economical situations will help aleviate that.
Best of luck.

If you know the approximate date the child was born and the area the child was born in, the local registry office should have details or better still St. Catherines House in London will give you access to the register for that date for a small fee. Good luck

A simple DNA test would solve the mystery. Not that expensive anymore either. If the test comes back this is NOT her child she can sue the hospital and they would have to seek out the birth mother of the other baby. This could turn out to by a huge mess as well as a huge EMOTIONAL SHOCK TO THE OTHER MOTHER. Again, if the test comes back negative, GET AN ATTORNEY!

I assume this was a long time ago. I doubt that it could happen now. If this story is true, delving back into the past will only open a huge can of worms. Although tragic, i think this matter should just be left as it is now.
