Chicken pox is actually contagious for teh 10 day incubation period BEFORE the spots come out. It is very rare for somebody who comes in contact woth a child AFTER the spots have already shown to catch chicken pox. I know this because I have a blood deficiency which makes it very easy for me to contract the virus....I have had pox 8 times and shingles 3 times...nice! when u should only have it once!
