I know this sounds silly, but take Saran Wrap and wrap the area(s) you want to slim down. Exercise with this on and those wrapped areas will sweat more than the other areas. It does help; I've tried it before.

You cannot determine where on your body you will lose weight, the best you can do is to lower your bodyfat levels. For the average person, the fat stored around the waist is the hardest to get rid of, you need to get your bodyfat under 20% to get a slim waist, and under 10% to show the stomach muscles.
To lose body-fat exercise regularly and start calorie counting. Work out your BMR and try to eat about 500 calories a day less than this.
Running is one of the best ways to lose weight, cycling, swimming, rowing are also very good. If your not comfortable with these try dancing to your favorite music in your bedroom for an hour a day.
Don't try to lose weight it too quickly, 2 pounds a week maximum.

Knowing height weight etc. would help. If your current bodyfat percentage is low (which it probably is given your daily caloric intake) then youre probably asking how to tighten up and look good. My best advice is have fun with exercise. Ride a bike for 20 mins a day then do some some core work like crunches and pushups. Do this for 1 or 2 weeks then find something else to do the next. There are plenty of Zumba or aerobics classes around. If you mix things up you'll be much less likely to get board.

well when you are only pretty much holding weight in the mid section then it's probably all about your diet. You can workout till the cows come home and you're not going to lose the belly until you make some diet changes. As far as working out that section, you really can't spot train. You can do crunches or whatever but they will only strengthen the muscles and not really burn much fat. The best way is cardio, cardio, cardio. If your heart rate is up for at least 20 min then consider it cardio and yes, even dancing. Remember to change your diet though and you'll see results.
