Genesis 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature (nephesh) that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

Genesis 14:21 And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons (nephesh), and take the goods to thyself.

Numbers 9:6 And there were certain men, who were defiled by the dead body (nephesh) of a man, that they could not keep the passover on that day: and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day:

Numbers 31:19 And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person (nephesh), and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day.

Joshua 11:11 And they smote all the souls (nephesh) that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them: there was not any left to breathe: and he burnt Hazor with fire.
Matthew 10:39 He that findeth his life (psuche) shall lose it: and he that loseth his life (psuche) for my sake shall find it.

Revelation 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls (psuche) of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

Revelation 16:3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul (psuche) died in the sea.
ACTUALLY, the words nephesh and psuche should have never been translated as "soul" because it contradicts what the meaning and usage of the hebrew and greek words. Either the soul doesn't exist, or the bible is redefining the soul as mortal.

Mathew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

That would be a bad translation, I think; if it's there.

Soul=Hebrew/NEPHESH...that which breathes.

Note what Ezekiel 18;4 says...

The 'soul', us, breathing....CAN die.

(Ecclesiastes 9:5-6) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.

(Ecclesiastes 9:10) All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in She′ol, the place to which you are going.

She'ol is the grave.

Your soul cannot die, because it is a part of God, whom is indestructible. The negetive knowledge that is pick up in this negative world will be stripped away before you enter the clean world. Don't live fowl or you'll be like an infant in Heaven.

Soul that sins must die, this is even worse than the physical death.
There is much hope after physical death, but there is only bitter regret after spiritual death. That is why sin is so horrible. This is divine trtuh in the Hand of God.

Soul should generally refer to mind, will and emotions,

However I am not a theologists and study the Greek or Hebrew texts.

Our Soul was tainted when we sinned and our mind, will and emotions subject to the carnal nature, or sin nature.
