How the Word of God came to be written
OLD TESTAMENT
The authors of Hebrew Scriptures are not as identifiable as those of the New Testament. The Books arose in the midst of the law given by Moses and the prophets sent by God to the children of Israel. The first 5 books (The Law) were written by Moses almost entirely. The remainder of the Old Testament is composed of the prophets and writings in the Hebrew canon, whereas the English Bible includes the following categories: historical books, poetic books, and prophetic books. These books include such authors as Samuel, David, Joshua, Solomon, and the Major Prophets such as Isaiah, Jeremiah, and a number of lesser-known figures who wrote smaller books called the Minor Prophets. Each of these authors presents his words as being the Word Of God.
NEW TESTAMENT
The New Testament was written by apostles of Jesus Christ and companions of the Apostles, Letters were written to individuals, churches, or larger groups of persons either to conform the truth of Christianity, engender belief in Christ, Correct problems in the local churches, or argue against error. The Book of Revelation also seeks tp present God’s plan for the end of the age.
HOW THE INSPIRED WRITTINGS WERE PASSED DOWN
OLD TESTAMENT
The Old Testament was written between 1440 B.C. and approximately 400 B.C.
The Laws of Moses was maintained in the Hebrew community by the priests of the temple. Later books continued to be deposited with these leaders until the destruction of the temple and then found their way into the teaching community begun by Ezra and continued in the synagogues. Trained scribes copied biblical texts by hand until the modern printing press came into use. The copies of the Masoretes of the ninth century A.D. are very close to the recently discovered Dead Sea scrolls, which originated a thousand years earlier.
NEW TESTAMENT
The New Testament books were copied by local Christian communities and passed from one to another for decades before an entire collection was made. Since the early letters were written on papyrus, they wore out rapidly and required regular copying. In the early fourth century A.D., fifty copies of the entire Old and New Testament Greek Scriptures were made at the order of the first Christian emperor, Contantine. It is likely that the Vaticanus and Sinaticus codexes, two of the longest early manuscripts to survive, originated from this order.
WHAT IS THE CANON OF SCRIPTURE?
The word canon is a word used to indentify the writings of the prophets, the apostles, and their companions, which are inspired by God and authoritative for truth pertaining to doctrine and life. It means “rule” or “standard.” A book is not inspired because it is declared to be conocical but is considered inspired. Therefore, the church discovered the canonicity of the Old Testament books; it did not determine or cause their canonicity.

The word "bible" is a corruption of the classical Greek word, "biblios", meaning "book". The christian cult has warped and mutilated the meanings of many words from their original meanings. The original meanings of words like "hag" and "pagan" are further evidence of this.
"Hag" used to be a term of reverence for older women who were knowledgeable in natural medicines (roots and herbs) and who practiced midwifery. The christians came along and called them "witches" and burned them; today, we would call such women "scientists". Small wonder the christians want cretinism - oops, creationism - in schools.
"Pagan" comes from the Latin word "paganu(m)" meaning "someone who is not from the city, rather from the country". By that definition, christianity is a pagan religion since it started in rural villages. I said that to a godbot once, a christianazi who actually SPOKE Latin, and he tried to attack me.
Back to the second part, the bile - oops, bible - is a collected work produced by a committed in the early catholic crutch - oops, church. It was an attempt to organize and dictate a single mythology, rather than the wide array of fables swimming around the Mediterranean at that time. Of course, since the buybull - oops, bible - was compiled in Italy and not the place where its alleged events allegedly happened (and its authors had never been there), it is ridden with factual and locational errors which idiots today tend to over look (eg. Nazareth is less than 1800 years old, so "jeebus" couldn't have lived there; the babble - oops, bible - is only about 1400 years old as a compiled book).

The word *bible* comes from the ancient greek word for book - biblos. As has already been said, better than I can, it is comprised of many different books written by many different people over the course of millenia; And it is believed to have been inspired by God through those authors. As for what it is, it appears to be something of a manual for living, as it contains history, laws, advice, promises, warnings, predictions, and many other things. At one time there were many different versions which varied in the translation of some words and phrases from the others, but currently the King James Version is the one that's most wide spread.
And now that I've said something about the Christian bible, I'll tell you that a *bible* in general refers these days to a definitive text on something. For example, your owner's manual for your DVD player could be refered to as your player's *bible* so to speak. Or that really huge book in your local library could be refered to as the *bible* of a particular topic because it is so exhaustive in the amount of detail and information it contains.

The Bible is the record of the history of the Israelite people and their interaction with YHVH, the god of their fathers. As I see it, it contains their creation and tribal emergence myths, important events of their early history, as well as the spiritual reflections and reactions of the Israelites to the events of their history. Such a work necessarily is part narrative, poetry, philosophy, law, and scientific best guess. Taken on that level, the Bible is an unparalleled classic of human literature and I think that as long as there are people, there will be a place for the Bible.
In the literal sense, the Bible is a record of how YHVH formed the world, picked a chosen people, worked 10 simple moral precepts into an advanced contract covering 613 articles that touched all aspects of daily life, inspired these people to acts of unspeakable horror (just read Joshua), cajoled these people into following this contract using local thugs (think Nebuchadnezzar) and then made them feel guilty about it, and ultimately used his son/archcollaborator to replace them with the very gentiles who had conquered and mistreated them. When taken literally, I'd almost rather forget it existed entirely.

Bible: we usually think of it as one book, but it is really a collection of many different books; a book regarded as authoritative in its field
Holy Bible: The primary source for the Christian faith. Anglican, Roman Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox Bibles are made up of the Old Testament, which tells the faith history of ancient Israel until the building of its second temple; the Apocrypha, which tells the political history of Israel to the time of the Romans; and the New Testament, which tells the story of Jesus Christ and how he fulfilled God’s promises to Israel
Authors: Usually the authors of the books in the bible are stated in the contents itself. eg. John is the author of the gospel john, revelation, and etc

The Bible is the Holy Book of the Christian faith. The Bible was written by men who believed that they were transcribing the inspired word of God as it was given to them. Some Christians believe that the Bible is the infallible word of God, with every passage to be taken literally and at face value. Other Christians say that in many places the Bible gives contradictory statements, and should be looked at more as the spirit of God's word, rather than the letter, and should be viewed in context.
