At 9 weeks old the puppy is old enough to take a Capstar. This is a pill that will kill all of the fleas on the dog for 24 hours. You can usually get this at the vet, or even some pet stores carry it. Also, use either Frontline (which kills fleas and ticks) or Advantage. Both of these can be purchased at a pet store. I know that Advantage can be used on puppies as young as 8 weeks old, but I am not sure about the Frontline. DO NOT BUY THE CHEAP STUFF!!! Use the quality products from the vet or a pet store. The cheaper products that come from the grocery or box stores have been known to cause reactions in some animals. If your dog may not be from a quality breeder, then it might have allergies. Be very very careful with that!

There isn't really any commercial product that's safe for puppies under 12 weeks. You should take him into the vet and let them do a flea treatment (most likely a dip not an oral) and they can watch for any adverse signs. Meanwhile, you should use a flea ridding carpet cleaner and get Advantage for your cats. That way, any fleas the cats inadvertently bring in, will die once they bite the cat, even if they get into your carpet or onto your puppy. Just be sure to stay away from flea collars on all of your animals. They actually do more harm than good.

since she is so young I thing yo uare going to have to take her to a vet to be treated, as far as I know most flea tratments are ok to use from the age of 12 weeks. In the super market there is various flea shampoos that may be able to be used at 9 weeks.
Other than taking he to the vet the only other thing i can suggest is fill the bath up to her ankles get her all wet put BABY conditioner (adult conditiners can strip their coats of their own oils, same with shampoo baby shampoo is used by a lot of show dogs) on her and flea comb it through her coat getting out as many fleas as you can.
This will only reduce the number of fleas on her and will need to be done again in about a week and every week untill she is old enough to get the treatment that kills the fleas.
hope this helps and good luck, everyone goes thorugh a flea problem at one point or another.

if you find a bad breeder you need to inform your local animal welfare officer in case they are unlicenced . You should NEVER buy a pup from them even if you want to 'save' it. Every pup which gets sold to well meaning people means that the breeder knows they are on to a good thing and breeds more puppies to keep up with the demand. Had nobody bought a pup from them, they would not have bred another litter as they would have lost money.
You need to go to your vet. Most do a free flea check. Then buy an appropriate product from them and treat not only the pup but all the pets in your home and treat them regularly.

I would not use over the counter flea medication on your puppy. You need to take him to the vet and get him treated. I have heard that those collars and stuff make dogs sick. I don't even know if he is old enough for frontline, but you need to take him in as soon as possible. The fleas will be all over your house and then you will spend a lot of money getting rid of them. Good Luck

Don't get those flea shampoo or solution from pet shops as your puppy are too young to use it. It will be very harmful to the skin, from the description you stated, it may seems like it gotten some fungus infection.
Its normal for puppies to have fungus infection especially those that got it from farms and pets shops due to their unhygenic handling of the cages. Perhpas during your next trip to vet or its vaccinations, you should ask the vet and have a skin check or something and get proper treatment.

As she is very young I think you should get a flea treatment from the Vet. He might want to check out the scabs as well.
You will need to treat the pup and her bedding and your carpets. It is a bit of a chore but once you have got rid of them it is easy to keep your dog flea-free.
One of mine had sarcoptic mange when I got it and a friend's dog had lice!!!

I think it's really sweet that u took this puppy in...........!! Whatever u do.......don't use a tick and flea collar........it can prove to be deadly if ur pup chews it!!
U should take her to a vet for a dip if she has many fleas.......then the best thing to do is wash her regularly with tick and flea shampoo thouroughly.........it's available in any department store........!! (Make sure u use gloves!!)
Good luck........;)
