I'm coming over to London and the south of England for a few days between Christmas and New Year. Any suggestions about places to go and things to do? London, OK, lots to do, but not sure about other places in the south - bearing in mind the weather is likely to be less than friendly.

Frankly I'd stick with London if I were you.

The bit between Christams and New Year is typically taken as an extended holiday apart from those who work in the retail sector............so the main activity in the UK at this time is SHOPPING (aaarrgghhh !!!).

Other than that, it tends to be really quiet on the entertainment front while everyone saves their energy for the next big party on New Year's Eve.

If you do want to get out of London for a day or two, I'd suggest going somewhere where there are things to look at (that will be open) other than shops. Top of this list would be Bath (Roman baths and the Abbey) which is a couple of hours away and Oxford (some colleges might be open but you should check first and the Ashmolean Museum) which is an hour away.
