Christianity and Judaism are very similar, the difference being the role of Christ. One way to look at Christians is to say they are Jews who believe that Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah. The main reason that Jewish people do not believe that Jesus was the Messiah is that they feel that he failed to fulfill the prophesies regarding the Messiah. The main points are that Jesus was not a political figure who ended the oppression of the Jews by the Romans. For example, Jesus said his Kingdom was in Heaven, which was not what the Jews expected, they thought the Messiah was to establish his Kingdom on Earth. Interestingly enough, the Bible states that when Jesus returns, he will fulfill the idea of a political Messiah who will establish his Kingdom from Jerusalem and rule the world with peace and justice.

Because Jesus' suppossed earthly father was Joseph, a carpenter. The jews believe that their Messiah would be born of a King.

But Joseph was indeed a descendant of King David.

Another reason is becuase the Jews dont want anymore trouble with their Roman Masters back then. They interpreted Jesus not as a Messiah but as a revolutionist.

Bottomline is that i believe in Jesus as the Messiah,

Well some of them obviously did. For those who didn't believe he was the messiah, a large part would be the fact that there were numerous messianic claimants around at the time and they would have thought he was just the same as the rest.

In the New Testament itself there are even hints that Jesus himself did not see himself as a messiah or as divine!

Because, in order for the Messiah to be considered the Messiah he has to accomplish certain things, both personally and worldwide. And since Jesus accomplished none of them, he is not the messiah.

Case in point: The Messiah has to be a descendant of King David. Since Joseph wasn't his father and matrilineal lineage doesn't apply, Jesus was not a descendant of David thus he does not fulfill that point.

The Jews believed that the messiah would save them from oppression, the oppressors at Jesus time were the Romans and Jesus did not over throw them.

They also did not accept Him as messiah because, He preached Grace and began to challenge their customs.

He also said He was God which in their eyes was heresy.

I believe these are the major reasons.

well i dont think i know all the correct reasons. But one of them was political! because the sons of Abraham were seen as infalible but called sons of the devil by jesus. thats not to say that the actuall begotten children of abraham were not much better than conspirators to murder their own brother or the same ones that killed a village even after a covenant of circumsicion was made. No it meant those that were wicked in high places that PRedominately Controlled religion and teaching whom Jesus also declare as murderers of the prophets, so that truth COULD be controlled in the form of lies and false witnesses. In such control religious leaders reformed the gospel into something that would brain wash people into not believing in their messiah.
indoctrination without study and knowledge becomes this kind of ignorance and blind faith. And when a sincere man prays for truth he will find many traditions become False and faith is no long innocent and naive. Such men have always been jailed and killed throughout history by the antichrist of babylon

The biblical Jesus renounced violence, and in turn, they renounced God's Word - Take a look at the current situation in the so-called HOLY LAND.

Simply, the Jew's are waiting for a Warrior King to lead them to Victory (World Domination) over the Gentiles i.e. Non-Jews.

They are Human Beings, and as such, any one of them could be another Hitler, or another Mozart!

Please Note: I am Anti-Religious/Stupidity, NOT Anti-Semetic -

Stupid, fearful Humans invented Religion - Not God!

It's true that the Jewish people expected the Conquering King of Zechariah 6:12 & 13 and other prophetic Old Testament passages, rather than the Suffering Servant of Isaiah Chapter 53. They didn't realize that their Messiah would FIRST come as the Suffering Servant and LATER return as the Conquering King. This is the OBVIOUS reason the Jewish people didn't (and why most still don't) believe Jesus is the Messiah.

But the New Testament tells us the REAL reason the majority of Jewish people don't believe Jesus is the Messiah--and it isn't because they aren't God's chosen people.

The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 11:1 & 2: "...Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God hath not cast away his people which He foreknew."

The reason most Jewish people don't believe in Jesus is simply because God has temporarily blinded their eyes to this truth for two reasons: 1) because of their unbelief, and 2) in order to offer salvation to the Gentiles.

Paul quotes the Old Testament, when he states, in Romans 11:8 & 11: "(According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day." "I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy."

Paul continues, in Romans 11:25-27: "For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins." And in verse 32, he continues: "For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that He might have mercy upon all."

Yet, despite this, Paul assures us that, all along, there has been a "remnant" of Jewish people who have believed in their Messiah, while the rest were blinded. In verse 5, he states, after making reference to the 7,000 Israelites that God had reserved to Himself in I Kings Chapter 19: "Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace."

It's interesting to note that, at the stage of history in which we live, the situation is exactly the same for Gentiles as it is for Jews. There is only a remnant of Gentiles who actually come to Christ also, and the rest are blinded. This is because the Lord hardens the hearts of those who refuse to "receive the love of the truth."

So, for anyone who feels it's unfair of God to blind the Jewish people to the identity of their Messiah, He isn't doing anything to them that He isn't also doing to unbelieving Gentiles. God is not unfair, though many seem to think so. He will reveal Himself to those who want to know Him no matter what knowing Him might entail. Those who desire to know the truth, regardless of what the truth might be, and who willingly "receive the love of the truth," whether they are Jews or Gentiles, will be shown the truth. But those who refuse to "receive the love of the truth" will be blinded to it. It is apparently one of God's spiritual laws.
