Lots of people who believe in God do so because otherwise they would feel very alone.
It's a social problem, and a human psyche problem. I don't think it will ever be resolved, as it's been going on for too long now.

No one dared so far to claim creating, or being able to create, any single thing, even a hair!! The Creator and The Sustainer of all these Creatures is One only; if there were more than one there would have been confusion in the heavens and the earth! That One is Allah (the only true God).
Can we find an explanation of the great universe? Is there any convincing interpretation of the secret of existence? We realize that no family can function properly without a responsible head, that no city can prosperously exist without sound administration, and that no state can survive without a leader of some kind. We also realize that nothing comes into being on its own. Moreover, we observe that the universe exists and functions in the most orderly manner, and that it has survived for hundreds of thousands of years. Can we, then, say that all this is accidental and haphazard? Can we attribute the existence of man and the whole world to mere chance.
In the world then there must be a Great Force in action to keep everything in order. In the beautiful nature there must be a Great Creator who creates the most charming pieces of art and produces everything for a special purpose in life. The deeply enlightened people recognize this creator and call him Allah 'God'. He is not human because no human can create or make another human. He is not an animal nor is He a plant. He is neither an idol nor is He a statue of any kind because none of these things can make itself or create anything else. He is different from all of these things, because He is the maker and keeper of them all. The maker of anything must be different from and greater than the things which he makes.
Imagine yourself in an aeroplane and you know it is
going to crash...
Who do you turn to for help then ?
Or on a ship in the sea, thrown helplessly up and down
by towering waves ...
There will have been a situation at one time or the
other in your life when you called upon your Creator
alone, forgetting everyone and everything else,
hoping, trusting, wishing that the Being you know in
your heart and soul that has power and control over all
things would help you. The only One you know can
save you!

You're disillusioned. I didn't grow up in a religious environment. I became an agnostic during my teen years. After a few members of my family found faith, my dad and I would have religious debates with them, asking all the usual questions agnostics always ask Christians: What makes you think YOU'RE right and everyone else is wrong? Who says the Eastern religions don't have the truth? Can you prove to me that there's a God? etc., etc., etc.
As time passed, though, I realized there was something missing in my life and began to seek after the truth. I believe in God today because one night, at the age of 17, while lying in bed, I prayed a prayer into the air--one that I have to admit I wasn't sure I really expected to be answered: "God, IF you're there and you can really do all the things they say you can do, please come into my heart and do those things for me." Immediately upon finishing that prayer, an absolutely incomprehensible and inexpressible feeling of TOTAL peace flooded my entire being--a peace such as I had NEVER before experienced and one which I cannot to this day explain.
Of course, being the agnostic that I was, I immediately began to second guess the reality of the experience, telling myself that I'd simply convinced myself that something had actually happened. Still, it had seemed so real...I then fell asleep.
The next morning, when I went downstairs, my mom asked me a question she had NEVER asked me before--It wasn't the sort of question you asked me--very cautiously, knowing what a touchy subject religion was for me. She asked, "Did you receive the Lord?" and made a most interesting statement afterward: "You look like you did." I felt as if I'd been caught red handed! There was no way for her to know what I'd done the night before! That simply amazed me, since I'd awakened feeling a little silly about my prayer and God's response and totally doubting the reality of the experience. I told her I HAD accepted the Lord, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
When my dad heard the news, he began to say such things as, "Hello, CHRISTIAN!" whenever he saw me. He had lost his most staunch anti-religious ally! But, do you know what? I have NEVER regretted the decision I made that night, and God has made Himself ever more real in my life through the years. He is WONDERFUL, and I would NEVER take back the decision I made at age 17, though now I am 54!
I believe in God because God is real, because He is capable of revealing Himself to ANYONE who sincerely desires to know Him--even an agnostic who wasn't raised in a religious environment!
As to your comment about being a "free thinker," the so-called "free thinker" only THINKS he's free. He is actually in bondage to the god of this world. He believes his anti-religious ideas to be self-generated, but in reality they come from "the Father of Lies," whose greatest lie--aside from the lie that God doesn't exist--is that he, himself, doesn't exist. As long as he can convince people that he, Satan, is a figment of the imagination, he can go about his dark deeds undisturbed and undetected, stealing the faith of the masses.
True freedom comes from knowing Jesus Christ. He said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life..." "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." So, break those chains that have held you back from being the REAL free thinker you can be. Let all your fears go...Empower yourself by asking God the questions that have always been buried deep in your heart, and (not hopefully, but definitely) you CAN find intelligent/logical answers, because God is intelligent and logical, and if you really mean it when you ask Him, He will answer you. May He bless your life with the reality of His love!

Well I might not impress you, but I believe in God , and I was not raised in a christian home, I did not except God into my life until I was in my 30's, I had a hunger for something, I did not know what, but I was so miserable that God was my last resort, I prayed that he would give me peace in my life, and something happened that I can not explain, I felt cleansed, revived, and I was happy, full of joy and peace, and I have continued to feel this way for more than 36 yrs, and I know that God is real, and that's all I need to know.

troy troi, From your present viewpoint you are correct. Lay that aside for a while, you can come back to it. try to see this. What you desperately seek is,"how do I find this God"? The spirit of God in the form of unconditional love, pervades your heart. You must trandscend your mind & enter your heart. follow your heart not your head.Read romans 1-19/20. all things from their creation have been shown all there is to know of God,even unto the Godhead. this is the root of faith. Yes all there is to know about God is within your own heart, when you read, see or experience a truth, reaching its vibratory level you suddenly "SEE IT". "Like a bolt out of the blue it came to me. "God dwells within you as you",the essence of your being is unconditional love." Saints of all ages say it is dangerous to attempt to awaken this Great power within you without the aid of the outer guru. Yes your true Guru is within You,it is much easier to have a guide to show you around and explain what is happening to you.the outer Guru is a but a mirror. Thank you for a very good Question.see www.stephen-knapp.com/articles_to_read.htm and syda.org/theguru

Why does the earth jus sit in space and spin around the sun? and for what reason? u dont kno... i dont kno... it jus does... can u explain that... science will do its best, but even science is sometimes baffled... all i kno is one person knows everything...

I love him because i can see his cool face when i am trying to talk him.
I am bad but he always endures me and forgive me more.
You should come out of earth for a while and see how big he is and also you because he gives his power to you too.
You can be great and change your world it's depend on how God help you to find yourself and your ability.
He takes my hands to rise as takes your hands if you also give him your hands.
He is love but i can't understand him yet,.........
