I have prayed to have God enter my life and be my personal savior, I am trying to become a better person by changing the way I think and feel. It is extreamly hard but I am trying. I read the bible at night. I want to feel the "change" I dont know what to expect. Am I not sincere about what I want? I want to believe that I am. I have been blessed in so many ways this past year that I feel that I need to show my graditute by changing my ways and get to know my God. What do I need to do?

Hi. One thing is for sure - this Yahoo anwers forum is a good place to get confused, distracted, and discouraged.

I think your question is sincere. Some of the answerers have given you good advice.

The Christian life can be compared to a 3-legged stool. All three legs must be there or you slide off. all three legs must be pretty equal or you will be unbalanced and wobblely. But if all three legs are there, then you grow and mature, little by little perhaps, but you will grow...

The three legs are these: Bible study, prayer, and fellowship with other believers. You mention reading the bible. Do you have a time of prayer every day? Do you meet together with other believers to worship, to do more bible study, to pray, to discuss events?

Fellowship - meeting together withother believers - is so important. And prayer is to be our life-blood, not just presenting a shopping list to God but a heart-felt communion with Him.

But remember: The Christian life is just that: a life. Not an "experience". And just like life, it has a lot of "routine" dull moments, maybe once in a while a real neat emotional high, etc - but a lot of time it is just walking along in your life with no big feelings, events, etc.

But I do believe God wants to reveal himself to His children and I will pray that He will help you in your life to love Him more and shine for Him in this crazy world....

Loving God is the most wonderful thing we can do....

Please email if you wish!!!

I do have a little website

Please visit if you can. There are some links there that might be of help.

God bless!!

Sounds like you have made a serious commitment to serve the Lord, I commend you for your eagerness, if you have no church, then that would be a good idea, get involved with the youth , there is such a need as you can see from many of the posts on this site, when you are giving to others, you loose yourself and God can work more in you.
We all need to let God be the focus of every element of our lives, there is not anything in our lives that he dose not have the answer for. Just keep seeking and God will direct you..

I was like you up until 2 years ago when I joined this church and get baptized. For me it's the everyday life that makes u closer to Him, the sensitivity you have with Him (eg. when somethin good happen, u pray n thank for it. When somethin bad happen u also pray n ask for his guide). By that I mean you just have to feel it inside you that you are not alone there is Him always be with you. GBU

To be God’s friend, you need to learn about him. Do your friends know your name and use it? They do. God wants you to know and use his name too. God’s name is Jehovah. (Psalm 83:18; Matthew 6:9) You must also learn what he likes and dislikes. You need to know who his friends are and who his enemies are. It takes time to get to know someone. The Bible says that it is wise to set aside time to learn about Jehovah.-Ephesians 5:15, 16.
God’s friends do what is pleasing to him. Think about your friends. If you treat them badly and do the things that they hate, will they continue to be your friends? Of course not! In the same way, if you want to be God’s friend, you need to do what is pleasing to him.-John 4:24.
Not all religions lead to friendship with God. Jesus, who is God’s closest friend, spoke of two roads. One road is wide and is filled with people. That road leads to destruction. The other road is narrow and has few people traveling on it. That road leads to everlasting life. This means that if you want to have God’s friendship, you must learn the correct way to worship him.-Matthew 7:13, 14. If you really want to get to know God Study the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses I did and that way I have been able to truly get to know and be closer to God,then I everbefore could could when I was a Catholic I think you seem to have a humble attitude and that is the first step and a good start, Keep ppraying to the true God Jehovah for the knowledge he wants you to learn. and ask him to show you the real truth and you will be blessd a lot more Jehovah is the only true God and he loves you and wants you to know the truth about him and his son Jesus Christ(John17:3)

First off, I want to say welcome to the family. I'm glad to see that you've realized your need for God. To be honest, a really good way to expand upon your efforts would be to find a mentor or join a discipleship group. It is very hard to start out as a new believer and suddenly just know what to do. I suggest finding a good church with a strong outreach to new believers. Hopefully, they will guide you and help you to grow stronger in your faith and help keep you accountable.

Keep praying and meditating on the love of Christ and the sacrifice He made on the cross. Read the gospels over and over again. When I was a young Christian I had trouble feeling close to Jesus. Hang in there, it will come...just keep believing and asking Jesus to make Himself real and personal to you.

Also, I'm putting you on my prayer list. K?

Read your Bible and pray for understanding. Rely on God for everything....that was Abraham's ticket...

(Gal 3:6) Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
(Gal 3:7) Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
(Gal 3:8) And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
(Gal 3:9) So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
(Gal 3:10) For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
(Gal 3:11) But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
(Gal 3:12) And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
(Gal 3:13) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
(Gal 3:14) That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

I don't mean this in a bad way, but apply the word to your life. If you don't, then bible will seem just like a book of history about other people.

You can get closer to god if you are really serious!

When I started on this journey at 11 years of age, I had not the slightest inkling that I would see God one day in this very life, leave apart the question of how many years from now But one thing I was very sure of was that if God was to give a darshan to someone on Mother earth it was to be me. Inherently I knew that purity of Mind was to be maintained at all costs.

Even as a child I could see people cheating God when they were alone in the surroundings of their house or the office. When I used to challenge such people of their untruthfulness they used to counter that no one had seen them making a theft. I inherently knew that these people were fooling their own self for God was everywhere and he takes care of all our actions be they good or bad.

One had to be hundred percent truthful if he ever was to realize self in this very life ... a very difficult task as in the day-to-day mundane affairs of life sometimes even unknowingly one may be untruthful and unless one knows the right path of repenting how to absolve self out of the situation. There had been a King Vikramaditya in India in the past who was famous for his truthfulness. I followed his path of Tapasya (Prayer) ... and one-day I knew I had become an absolutely truthful human being.

Still, there was no God to be seen anywhere. I subsequently Realized that apart from being truthful one had to practice Celibacy to its extreme end. Not involving one self in sexual activities of any nature alone is not sufficient. The complete definition of Celibacy meant not involving one self in sexual activities physically but even mentally. It was very difficult for me to find out what was the meaning of mental sexual activities. In spite of all my best efforts in controlling sexual desires I was getting nowhere.
