Me and my boyfriend want to go to Florida for our winter vacations.
Neither of us has been there, and we're not sure where to even start.
We want to be by the beach...that's the most important thing. It will be during December, is the weather warm enough to swim during that month in Florida?
Is Key West good? OrTampa Bay? or anywhere!
We're not huge party animals, but wouldn't mind having a couple of clubs near by. Any suggestions?

P.S. We are not planning on visiting Disney World

Average water temperature in South Florida during that time of year is in the low 70's. Further north around tampa it's around the mid 60's. The locals consider this too cold to swim but you may feel differently. Average high air temperatures are in the high 70's but remeber these are averages it can easily be in the low 60's but lower temperatures usually only last a couple of days. Key West is a great little resort town but they don't have the best beaches. To get the warmest weather I would suggest staying on the south east coast (the water there is a little warmer then the west coast thanks to the gulf stream). Miami Beach is famous for it's beach and will provide plenty of night life (not all of which is overly trendy or touristy) . North of Ft. Lauderdale you can find good beaches but in somewhat quiter areas.

The Keys are a lovely drive from Miami, but not many beaches...a few man made ones in Key West..but worth a visit for a few days. Sarasota/St.Pete/Tampa area has much more going on. Clearwater is a gorgeous beach.Sanibel Island(near Ft. Meyers) is spectacular. and lots to do in that area, Naples, Marco island, etc.
If I had to pick one place to stay, it would be Sanibel..like a step back in time..millions of shells to pick and a short drive over a bridge to Fort Meyers. December should be fine for swimming. Thats another thing, Atlantic Ocean will be colder and much rougher than the Gulf side, so West coast is better at that time of year..and not as congested.

I love the Melbourne Beach, Indiatlantic area. Its very close to Coca Beach and Dayonta but its a litte more relaxed. You can fly into Melbourne International Airport and its only about a 15 minute drive to the beaches! The water is super warm and there are lots of things to do and great places to eat!

Key West is freaking amazing! Lots of historical sites, other amusements, GREAT night-life, all packed into a small but hospitable area. Just up the road (I think Isla Mirada - IDK, but you'll pass through by car on your way) there's a dolphin research area, where I THINK you can swim w/ dolphins. Again Key West is THE most fascinating place in FL, if not the USA! Check : The Trolley Tour of the island Sloppy Joe's Audobon House Mel Fisher's Treasure Museum (The Atocha shipwreck recovery) Mallory Dock at sunset (street performers) The Southern White House Ernest Hemingway House.
