it lasted for about 2 hours, it came in waves my body would convulse violently, i couldnt breath and my eyes were practically popping out, im in agony today and still having the odd little twitch, ive had a fit before, it was about 5 years ago but it was nowhere neer as bad as last nights. i am a migrane sufferer and have strange sleeping behaviour( dont know if these are linked), i would be very grateful for any advice.

THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO IS SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE. THERE ARE SEVERAL THINGS A DOCTOR WOULD BE THINKING ABOUT FROM WHAT YOU'VE DESCRIBED. SLEEP BEHAVIOUR IS KNOWN TO HAVE AN INFLUENCE ON FREQUENCY OF FITS IN PEOPLE KNOWN TO HAVE EPILEPSY. ALSO, PEOPLE WHO'VE HAD A FIT RECENTLY ARE AT AN INCREASED RISK OF A FURTHER FIT IN THE SUBSEQUENT 24 HOURS.
WHAT I'M MOST INTERESTED IN IS THAT YOU SAY THE SEIZURE LASTED 2 HOURS AND THAT (FROM YOUR DESCRIPTION) YOU WERE CONSCIOUS THROUGHOUT. THE 2 HOURS IS SIGNIFICANT AS THIS CONSTITUTES STATUS EPILEPTICUS, A VERY SEVERE FORM OF SEIZURE THAT CAN HAVE A POOR OUTCOME FOR THE SUFFERER. MORE INTERESTINGLY IS THAT YOU APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN CONSCIOUS THROUGHOUT, AND THIS SUGGESTS IT WASN'T A SEIZURE BUT MAY HAVE BEEN SOMETHING ELSE, POTENTIALLY RIGORS THAT CAN BE ASSOCIATED WITH AN UNDERLYING INFECTION.
IN SHORT, SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE AND DON'T BE SUPRISED IF SOMETHING ELSE OTHER THAN A SEIZURE IS SUSPECTED

Seek Medical Aid immediately, go to your Hospital, Medical Centre NOW , Do NOT drive, have some-one take you, or go by ambulance.
Recommend to your friends to do a FIRST AID course, in how to manage a casualty who has had a seizure.
Call an AMBULANCE for any person who has
- had a seizure ,lasting more than 5 minutes.
- or the person remains UNCONSCIOUS
- or another seizure follows quickly.
- if the person is injured.
There are trigger factors that may induce seizures,
- Lack of sleep
- Stress
- Infections & Illness
- Menstruation
- Photosensitivity (strobe lights, flickering sunlight through trees
televisions computers.)
- Changes in temperature
- Diet
- Other Drugs
- Missed Medications
Hope this helps you.

My husband was diagnosed with epilepsy a few years ago because he suddenly started having grand mal seizures out of the blue and they couldn't find out what the cause was. He also suffers from migranes so there may be some connection between them. He takes Dilantin now to control the seizures and hasn't had one since he started taking it. I suggest you talk to a doctor about it and get it under control. You don't want this to happen while you are driving and seriously hurt yourself or someone else. Good Luck!

You might be off medicines because you had its occurance 5 yrs back. The seizure is curable with regular medicine within 3-5 years. Since it is repeated after a gap of 5 years you should consult a neurologist. The duration of 2 hrs is alarming.

Go to the Hospital, as soon as you have read this and logged off. These 'Tremors' can be the precursor or warning sign of a Grand Mal Seizure to follow. GO NOW AND DON'T STOP TILL YOU GET TO THE HOSPITAL. For god sake, get someone else to drive you!

very high fever can also cause seizures. but if you are afebrile when you have it, i suggest you see a nuerologist for some series
of test to find out what is really wrong. 2 hrs siezure at a time is already too long. do the consult now.

are you taking medication for it?
a man had a seizure at my work and we later found out he wasn't taking his meds. he said he thought it would be okay since he hadn't had an episode in many years.
i would go to the doctor immediately and make sure you haven't given yourself a head injury. and talk about getting medication.
