Now I have to cables that aren't plugged into anything & the cable box doesn't work and the TV shows a blue screen.

cable box was hooked up to the dvd/vcr then to the tv.
cable coming from the wall should go to the cable box > cable box from box should go to back or tv. The simple way of installing this is using coaxial cable from the box to the tv with the antenna input. If there is a cable with three connectors on each end then you have a composite cable. It should be red(right)/white(left)/yellow(video). You should also have this on the back of your tv as long it is stereo. Just plug it into the input. Good luck
