I am not a Christian but believe He was real. His teachings are too profound and applicable today as then. Romans killed people the way Jesus died/ I must compliment you on your fertile imagination.

Because no-one would right a fiction the way the Gospels and Letters were written. Read Paul's letters. He has a go at the Corinthians for being badly behaved and allowing someone to be amongst them that slept with his fathers wife! He absolutely slates the Galatians. I mean, if I were trying to invent a religion, I would not need multiple stories like the Gospels, and all my stories of churches would be with everything going well. The Gospels and Epistles are brutally honest. That is not what a fertile imagination would have written.

In spite of what other people have posted here, there is no archaeological evidence to prove that Jesus did exist. There are also many similarities between Jesus and more ancient God-men (e.g. Ra from Egypt, Krishna from India) which could suggest that Jesus was fictitious.
The issue is this: Will whatever it is that you believe in remain true whether Jesus was a real or not?

Hmm...I wouldn't say he's the figment of someone's fertile imagination, there are to many recollections of him in books. However the tales of him being the 'son of God' are fake, and as you have stated my friend it is an evil weapon used by the churches to control the masses.

Because he's there in the pages of history. There was no denying he existed when he was around 2000 years ago.
You could insert the name Jesus for Darwin. The opium of the masses nowadays isnt religion- its the media, especially TV!

There's no real way to know. I believe there was a dude named Jesus, and someone chose to write some tall tales about him. I just don't think he's the son of God. I also don't understand why people worship him and his momma. I believe there's a God, but again, there's no way to know that either. It's really all about what you choose to believe and how strong your faith is.

Because his teachings ring true with the true goodness in your heart. That's not to say there haven't been efforts to manipulate using his message, but that doesn't invalidate the truth that can be understood by anyone who has a care to.

Jesus said "If you search for me, you will find me."
The first time I searched for him, he revealed himself to me in a way that there was no mistake that it was him.
If you haven't met him yet, why not try genuinely looking for him. You will know for sure that it is not a figment of your imagination! He also said "You will know the truth and the truth will set you free."

Name all modern intellectuals of today, and compare them with a 2,000 years ago Jesus Christ; see what their gaining on is.
Jesus Christ only wanted to build God's church, not with material structures but with humans, he speaks of saving souls.
Who else speak for us to save our souls!
You could say that it is a fertile imagination of someone, well it is a life one.

There are many accounts written of Jesus, as well as much physical evidence that Jesus at least existed, regardless of whatever your fundamental beliefs/disbeliefs in him are. I heard somewhere that there is more evidence Jesus existed than Abraham Lincoln existed.
