Your question doesn't make much sense. What do you mean by the fact that she doesn't make good decisions? Is she confused, irresponsible, a danger to herself? Does she have dementia, alzheimers, or other degenerative disorder? Or do you just not agree with what she chooses? There's a difference.

If she's having difficulty living alone, or needs a little guidance or assistance, there are assisted living facilities where she'd have access to help 24 hours a day, but would still be able to maintain her privacy and independence as much as possible. You could also see if her insurance will pay for a daily aid to help her with certain tasks she has trouble with. Your local social services department will also be able to give you advice and point you toward existing programs that are designed to help. There are alot of options out there these days.

Jumping right to a nursing home for someone who's not physically in need, or has no serious psychological problems that would make them a danger to themselves is just wrong. Nursing homes aren't always the answer...they're an easy way out for some people who just don't want to be bothered with aging parents. If this isn't you, then explore the options and alternatives that are available.

I don't get it....what kind of decisions is she making? If her health is good,if she can still drive,if she can still get around, let her be.If she is late paying bills or not taking her medication, there's no reason to put her in a nursing home but what you could do is have someone to come visit your mom for a few hours a day and have them make her lunch, take her out, help her get organized but don't put her in a nursing home just because of a bad decision that could be something she forgot about....
