There are many verses in the bible that say slavery is ok...new testament and old...so why don't we still do it today? If the bible says its ok then it must be right? Also the word servant in the bible means Slave...Jesus never condemms it nor does anyone else....They never mention it as a sin so even with Jesus Dying on the cross Slavery still went on.

What is wrong with owning slaves, Ever person who pays taxes is a slave. Owned by the government. Slavery has been around for all of history and no it is not a sin. People who were poor often sold them selfs into service in order to pay what they had borrowed. Often this was done to kinsmen. Some time a widow would do it to feed her children. So as with all forms of employment this is just another form of bondage. If you will notice there were ordances about how to treat them and also for there walfare.

It's just more proof that the Bible is a load of crap. If this is supposed to be the greatest moral guide ever written, it would denounce slavery. Back then, though, it was a common place thing and people saw nothing wrong with it. You'd think that God's word would be a bit more perfect than this Bible.

Back then you had a slave if they owed you something. It was legal then. The only reason it's legal no more is because of the forced slave labor in the 1700s-1800s in the U.S.

in the past, people had slaves to help them with domestic work and other matters.

Obvisouly over time, people that work for us are no longer callled slaves....they are now called staff.
these can include in-house staff (for those really posh and rich people who have domestic staff) or the worksmen that come to fix your utilities (the gas man, water authority, electricty and so on)
