To answer your question yes it is possible to paternity check dogs via DNA. There has been uproars in the dog world due to people misrepresenting their stud's bloodlines. There have been several cases of breeders claiming that the bloodline were from highly titled, German lines but the DNA testings proved other wise. All dogs in question would have to be swabbed or have their DNA profiles on record.

Years ago I had my male Golden DNA'ed. The service was available though the AKC. I was sent a swab, to obtain oral cells with and a sterile tube to return the swab in. I thought the fee of $45.00 was very reasonable. This included a DNA profile sent to myself as well as recording his profile at the AKC. I had this done in case my now ex decided to replace by beloved dog with another....I wanted a sure fire way to ID my baby.

Check the AKC website for details.

Our b1tch has been DNA profiled.

All racing greyhounds in Australia have to be DNA profiled to prove paternity and maternity before they are allowed to be bred with.

The test costs $120 AU per dog.

Anyone can have their dog tested to prove its parentage. Recently a person presented in court the DNA evidence that their alledged pitbull was really a Staffordshire X Kelpie. It is illegal to own a pitbull here, so that test allowed the person to keep their dog.

$35 for each dog tested. The potential father will need to be tested as well, if he hasn't been already.

BTW - any AKC stud dog that is used several times (5 I think) is suppose to have DNA testing done.

It is possible although mainly breeders will do so to prove the breed purity so that they have legitimate proof of a pure bred animal. For whatever your reasons, you better be ready to fork out some money if you intend to do so.

It will *ONLY* prove or DISPROVE *direct* parentage if BOTH suspect parents are ALREADY on file!!!

So,$40 PER DOG!!! For AKC REGISTERED DOGS!

*I* haven't NEEDED to....or ever WILL need to.

of course it's possible but it's very expensive, that's why the police don't do it in all of their cases
