No, I can't see why they would be offensive to anybody. They are okay for really little kids, who actually shouldn't be watching TV anyway, but what parent can always say no. At worst they are pretty simple minded, but not offensive.

There was a controversy a while ago over whether a certain character, "Tinky Winky," was gay because he's purple, carries what looks like a purse, and has an upside-down triangle on his head, vaguely reminiscent of the gay pride symbol, the pink triangle. The argument doesn't carry much weight. Aside from the fact that these characters seem to have no sexual orientation whatsoever (they have no genitals, after all), Jerry Falwell -- the originator of the controversy -- has accused other fictional television characters of being gay, including Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street. In other words, the overzealously religious often seem to see sexual symbolism where none exists.

There was speculation about the "purple" one being gay until about last year when he finally came out in a rainbow outfit and formally announced his homosexuality. No seriously, a few Christian Right wingers banned Teletubbies in their homes because of the perceived "gayness" of the purple one. My three year old daughter didnt' seem to have a problem with it.

Boohbah is offensive to to some as well. If you do not like it do not let your children watch it. That is the way I see it. I think some parents do not understand how these shows help the child. What is weired to us is fun and beneficial to a child. Have for the homo undertones I really have not seen it. They do push diversity a lot though.

My kids use to watch them and I didn't have a problem with it. It's for kids around like age 3 so to them it's an ok show. People (or the media) just made to much of a fuss about it being "gay"
