check with whoever is doing your catering to get the correct answer.
what you may be hearing about is people having taken their own cake to a dinner at the restaurant - for a birthday or something - & the restaurant then puts a charge on cutting up the cake & serving it - supposedly to cover the cost of the staff's time & use of their china & cutlery. The same thing as is often done at restaurants where you take your own alcohol & then get charged ""corkage""
So possibly the restaurant could be charging you for cutting up your wedding cake if you are having one.
i repeat
CHECK WITH THE VENUE

It isn't that your guests pay for the cake. It is the price for you or whoever is buying the cake. They figure out how many guests you are going to have eating the cake and the total is the amount per slice.

The boardwalk resort is nice, however, I've never heard of anyone paying for their slice of cake. Maybe you should switch caters? This doesn't sound right to me. I've never been to a wedding there -- only the marina. Well, good luck.

I'm confused, why would your guest have to pay for a slice of cake? It's your wedding and your cake, if you don't want them to pay for it then don't let them. I've never actually heard of anybody ever making their guests pay for their slice of cake. They're your guests and they're not paying for their plates of food why would you have them pay for cake? Good luck!
