The phrase " do the jobs that Americans don't wanna do." , is a myth. A lot of Americans will do these jobs, but will not for minimum wage. There is also some truth to the fact the employers would prefer not to hire Americans to do those types of jobs , just because they would need to be paid minimum wage, and they would also expect for the employer to take responsibility of some other topics, like accumulative trauma injuries, overtime, unemployment pay, ect.

ed_buchma... i disagree , it has been shown in the past, companies want their product to be as affordable as possible, and they will run as close to the profit margin as possible to get the sale. The sale its self is how their product is turned into $$$

Because we refuse to get paid 2 dollars an hours. We dint' live with 20 people under one roof so we can afford to make 2 dollars an hour. Further more the federal government would never allow employers to get away with paying us 2 dollars an hour.Because it's the law. But hey what do the illegals care about the law. They didn't obey to come into this country.
Like it or not it's the Employers that have to be the target! They are the ones that are giving illegals the opportunity! They are the ones that need to pony up!
I don't want to hear about how we would have to pay more and keeping the costs down.
If employers can't find people who want to work for minimum wage. They can either pony up the wages or file with INS to have immigrates come in legally. Where they do have to pay them minimum wages.
What the government has to do is get tough on the employers who hire illegal. Be it for domestic help or manufacturing or anything in between. 10,000 fine per illegal. That would make them change their minds fast about getting illegals to work for them.
Just an opinion! However I think it's honestly the only morally correct decision.
If there is no opportunity then they will soon get the message!

Mexicans coming here to work is NOT the biggest part of the problem. Exploiting the system to get benefits is.

But yeah, if America had the guts to kick its home-grown freeloaders off of the government dole and force them to do the crap the border jumpers are doing, it would be even less of a problem.

And I never heard of anybody getting paid $2 an hour. Unless things are radically different in other areas compared to how they are in the state I live in. All the jobs I've seen illegals working in pay the minimum wage or better.

Right now this whole thing is a disaster. Nothing less than an invasion.

Because they refuse to believe the Americans who get fired from jobs so that these immoral employers can hire two for the price of one.
My brother lost a minimum wage job at the time when it was $4.25 an hour, when he said he would not split that $4.25 with an Illegal Mexican, he was fired and his job was given to two illegals that were paid $2.00 an hour each, giving the employer more productivity and more profit, as he paid the men "under the table."

The unlawful workers and people who hire them are surely bringing down the wages of all workers. If there have been no unlawful artwork tension, employers may be compelled to pay an more advantageous salary. Many shape jobs which many times pay plenty bigger than minimum salary are being taken via illegals. Their employers place decrease bids on initiatives and agencies who refuse to hire illegals can not compete so some criminal workers lose their jobs. there is likewise a pending OSHA regulation requiring ordinary contractors to have a spanish translator on website. this is a crock. this is a approaches previous the time whilst our politicians could desire to act in our ultimate pursuits via making ENGLISH the decent (no longer in basic terms de facto) language of our united states of america besides a heavily penalizing employers who hire illegals. it rather isn't any longer that "American" won't do the artwork, purely no longer that activity for the wages being paid. The illegals additionally are no longer paying taxes which makes their earnings artificially bigger than that of criminal workers. Mexico would not prefer to work out any substitute in present day US coverage in view that approximately 10% of their economic equipment is in line with U.S. money flowing around the border from unlawful workers.

It's not a myth.
Do you really know any American that would wash a restaurant's toilet for 5 bucks an hour?
And it is true that the employer and the illegals are the only one taking advantage.
The public won't see the lettuce price go down because the farmer pays less to illegals, but if the farmer hires Americans or legal immigrants, the Lettuce price will go up for sure.
The illegals will at some point disappear, as every one wants, either by anmesty, temporary work visa, crackdown on employers, but it is certain the result will be higher prices on everything these people contribute with their cheap labor, housing, groceries, hotels, housekeeping, landscaping. There is no escape from that.

I think the best cure for that 'jobs that americans won't do' crap is to go down to ye olde Sears and Roebuck store, and buy ye manual labor tools, and just get to work doing what needs to be done around the house, there. If you're fortunate enough to have a yard, drop in a terraced garden and get some tomatoes going, that kind of thing. Once upon a time, people used to do for themselves, I read about a guy who got some roof space on his apt. building, and started doing hydroponic gardening. Where there's a will, there's a way, people that really want fresh vegetables and decks built and cars washed and houses painted tend to get them. People that are lazy don't.

We have a country where too many people draw welfare, and don't do enough work. Welfare statism teaches false values,
you were given a head, 2 arms, and 2 legs at birth utilize them to good effect by DOING for YOURSELF, and propelling yourself to the polling booth on voting day.

That argument is irrelevant....it is a way to keep the focus off the real issue which is the illegal aliens are breaking our laws! This argument is perpetuated by our illustrious president & some of the "elected class" when in actuality they should be more concerned that their inaction is turning us into a lawless society. Look at most third world countries lawlessness does not work! A lawful society has worked for centuries in the USA! This is what we need to keep preaching to the elected class..ENFORCE OUR LAWS!

I am so tired of hearing this same old, same old. No, it is NOT true. Illegal immigrants will do these jobs for far less than Americans will because even that is better than what they get at home and, they can afford to do it for far less because they don't have any taxes taken off their pay, as Americans do, because they work for cash (mostly, some of them use fake ID), and because they are willing to live far below the American standard (15 or more in a home meant for 2 or 4 people) in order to pool their money and still have enough to send money back home. As well, I am tired of hearing about how much harder they work and that if "lazy" Americans were willing to work as hard, illegal immigrants wouldn't be able to be stealing our jobs. No, it is NOT about that, at all! It is about the employers taking advantage of people who can be taken advantage of because they have no where to turn for help if the employer wants to work them for below legal wages and for more hours than are legally allowed. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why people who claim to be pro-illegal immigrant want this vulnerability for their "friends" who are here illegally.

Illegals are not only doing jobs Americans don't want. Near where I live one contractor got caught twice this year for hiring illegals for what are high paying construction jobs. They do get stuck with a lot of back breaking agricultural work and it keeps our produce costs low. The real cost of schooling the children and the health care costs are carried by the local and state tax payers. You are quite right to point to the employers for using these workers to avoid higher business costs. It's a real mess the way it is. I would like to see all the current laws enforced and see what effect that would have.
