The cause of snoring is some kind of blockage in the breathing passage. Those blockages can be of many kinds—here are just a few:
Tongue falling into the throat
Allergies
Throat weakness causing the throat to close during sleep
Mispositioned jaw, often caused by tension in muscles
Fat gathering in, and around, the throat
When the airflow in the breathing passage becomes irregular due to a blockage the soft palate may start flapping. This flapping of the soft palate is what makes the snoring sound.
Snoring cures almost all revolve around clearing the blockage in the breathing passage. This is the reason snorers are advised to lose weight (to stop fat from pressing on the throat), to stop smoking (smoking weakens and clogs the throat), and to sleep on their side (to prevent the tongue from blocking the throat).
Surgery is one option to cure snoring (for example a uvulopalatopharyngoplasty); dental appliances such as a mandibular advancement splint are another.
Different aids work for different people... good luck!

yes - several different approaches from laser surgery to a CPAP (continuous positive air pressure) machine that keeps the passages open.
need to have a sleep study done - ask your gen physician for a referral
I had 367 episodes in one 8 hr session where I stopped breathing for 35 seconds or more - Oxygen dropped to 77% (not supposed to go below 90) and only had stage 1 and 2 sleep - never got to three and four- the dream state.
After getting fitted for the CPAP, they want to have that down to 5-7 episodes per hour - mine dropped to 2,
MAN do I FEEL BETTER!

1. Sleep on your sides to begin with and not on your back.
2.You can try the 'breathe right' that football players and other atheletes are said to use. It's a tape that sticks on your nose and you breathe better. It is a nasal dialator that lets you take in the right amount of air to your lungs. I don't know if they work. There are mixed reviews on this product.
3. Consult with your doctor
