He only nurses at home is there any documentation that can show me when I should physically wean or do I allow him to go until he is a bit older? What are the pro's and con's?

I nursed my daughter until she was almost 2 years old. She never had a pacifier or a bottle, so when I weaned her, she went right to a cup. By two, the child doesn't "need" to nurse to stay alive. They're eating regular foods by now and should have had a sippy cup (or other cup) introduced and they should be able to hold it by them self. When I weaned my daughter, I cut out all "snacking" at the breast. The only times I nursed were first thing in the morning, naptime and at night. Then I gradually started cutting those out, until she just didn't need them anymore. Cuddling worked just as well. If you just start cutting back, you should have your child weaned in about 2 weeks.
On the other hand....... I had a friend who nursed her daughter until she was over four!!! That's pushing it a bit too far.
In the end, do what you want. Do what feels right for you and your son.
I don't have any documentation. What do you need documentation for?

I think that it is more of a habit for him now than anything else. If you want him to continue then by all means let him but if you want him to get off of it you have to go cold turkey. Everytime he tries to reach for your breast give him a cup of something that he'll love like chocolate milk or juice. It may take a couple of days but he'll get used to it, just don't give in.

I have heard that you just need to redirect your child with a new bedtime routine. Try bathing, stories and a back rub, he may be ready and has not told you. If, he resists, then, he may not be ready and you can always continue until he is more comfortable. But, redirection is the key!

I think you better wean him now so you may put eye liner on your nipples so your breast would look scary,or put bitter aloe on it so it would tasts bad so he would easily forget about it,(its OK never hurt the baby)
Good luck

Wean him before his sixteenth birthday or it could be embarrassing at the party.
