My little girl is 23 months old and she can spell her own name (Marion) perfectly!!! Is she really as smart as I think she is or am I just being another mom who thinks her child is a genus? She can also open all of the child safety locks (I know, I know not safe). She can also type simple word and count to 5.

My daughter started showing that she was gifted at 10months old...by making animal sounds very clearly...and I had taught her sign language since she was 7months old. She never shocked me with all her amazements...then my niece was born 9 yrs after my daughter and was doing 25 piece puzzles at age 1, and could tell you where all the states went in this wooden USA puzzle we had...although her speech was a lot slower than my daughter at that age...both children are what professionals call "Intellectually Gifted"...My daughter had taken an academic test in 2nd grade and was put into advanced classes from 3rd grade on..She is 14 now...
Remember to keep her mind busy...whether it be drawing, playdough, painting, puzzles or start her on a early preschool computer programs....They are always wanting to learn more...and if they get bored...WATCH OUT!!!! They are more intense with their emotions. I wish you all the best...and Good Luck with your daughter!!!

She sounds very smart, my daughter is 28 months. She also uses simple words. But She can't count or spell her name. I did read somewhere kids at this age are very good at repeating things so that n\maybe the case. But if you think she is really smart who cares what anyone else thinks thats your baby and thats all that matters.

Your daughter is probably not spelling her name in the traditional sense. She is more than likely memorizing the letters sequentially in her name, which is different than using reasoning to spell out a word. Meaning that if you ask her to spell Mumbles, she'll probably spell it M-A-R-I-O-N.

That being said, memory is an excellent early indicator of intelligence. Her ability to remember spellings of different words would indicate an above-average intellectual ability.

Genius? Maybe.
Great parenting? Definitely!

Good luck!

i'm no longer particularly specific of what normally happening is yet do no longer permit others shoot you down. save coaching and dealing along with her and those varieties of issues will come common to her whilst she gets to college. As for the intelligence area, I even have an quite extreme I.Q. the entire proficient and proficient factor and did no longer even talk until eventually after 2. sixteen months is early to be certain that, yet save up the solid artwork besides.

No, my 2 yr old son can count to 10 and sing his abc's and also knows his name too. He's learning his colors now and he can speak so clearly. It just depends on the childs learning ability and how early you teach them. My five year old was the one who taught him how to count to 10.

Every mothers child is a genius.

But seriously if you believe she is maybe you should talk to your doctor about getting her IQ checked. I she is a genius you could be holding her back if you dont get her put in a special program for gifted children.

I believe treating her as geuin won't hurt maybe it'll help her to be however these stuff of learning is mostly due to child ability to learn & surrounding environmkent
(do you all know that Aineshtin didn't talk untill he was 3)

She does sound very bright! Talk to her paediatrician about getting her tested by a specialist. There are a number of tests available, such as aptitude tests, which would help you to know if she is gifted, and if so, ways to nurture her gifts.
