I'm curious...Then what do you care about? Movies, music, and books take care of a lot of things. What do you talk with people about?
As for your child:
Pick a book together and read it at the same time and discuss it. Or take a class offered in the community together (dancing, painting, aerobics, etc...)

Wow! Really? You don't take any interest in books, music or movies? My kids are 3 & 6 and we have quite a bit in common. My 6 yr. old likes to listen to Johnny Cash with me. We both love Harry Potter and are huge fans of Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends. My 3 yr. old loves a good game of UNO and we sit and draw together. Sometimes they'll watch a movie I don't really care to watch but they ask me to join them so I do just to enjoy their company. I don't like all the same things they like but I enjoy hearing them tell me about them. My 6 yr. old loves playing Jimmy Neutron on the PS2. I don't care at all about that game. But I sit and listen when he tells me about it or when he wants to show me something on it. If you cannot find any way to relate to your children then you really aren't trying very hard.

Thank your lucky stars that your children are intrested in such things and not into drugs, gangs or in jail. To many kids get involved with wrong crowds and end up in trouble. If I were you Id make myself care about the things that were important to my kids. Take them to see a movie let them choose, listen to their music even if you dont really care for it. It lets them know that you take an intrest in them.

Fake it, you don't have to like the same style of books, movies and music but you can talk with them about why they like it. Just show a non-judgmental attitude when you talk to them, let them do all the talking. Simple questions like, "So what is it you like about ___________?" They will tell you and you can follow up with something like, "Wow, I didn't know that about _________" It won't really matter that you could care less personally. What will matter is that you spent time talking with them and listening to them.
I can't stand the stuff my kids like, and they can't stand the stuff I like, but we humor each other and try to be patient and listen to one another.

hi. I think you should try and find out about the things that they like to do. If you don't like anything try and find something you both like to do and spend time with them? Give it a go you might be surprised at what you will find out!?!

You should be thankful they take such pleasures. Honestly there's a lot worse things they could be into.
