I just made several photo collages in paint which I wanted to print, but when I upload them to photo websites, they warn me that the images are too low-resolution and won't turn out well.

I made the images as 4x6 inch jpegs. Why are they being flagged as low resolution? How bad are they going to look? What can I do to make the quality better?

I'd really like to salvage these, I just spent a lot of time working on them.

when you start working on photos, you first should think what are you going to do with them and in what size! you want to print them,so you must use resolution not less than 300 p/in with a size of more than double of that you really finally want.you have to save you uncompleted work in psd or tiff format, when you finish working, save the tiff copy on a CD and send it to the printing house,or make a jpg copy to send through internet.the original psd copy will be kept in your computer for future changes or additions, for best results, work should be done in photoshop...not beginners paint ...need any help, contact me at "

The problem is that you used the photographs in the jpeg format. If you had converted them to a bitmap, they would have stayed high resolution. When ever you use jpeg and you change the size of the photo, once you re-save the image you loose the detail. It is best to use tif or bmp and once you get your final image you can convert to jpeg.
