Usually they don't "repo" the car until you are 3 months behind in your payments. This doesn't mean they won't come to get it any sooner. It usually depends on how much the car is worth and how much is owed on it.

A place can repo your car if you are late. Any amount of time past your grace period. My mom's car was repo'd after one payment was late.
