We've been keeping my brothers dog for the past month, and just like my brother said, he throws up if he eats bones. (Steak Bones, Rib Bones, etc). I'm wondering why he does this. Is there something "in common" with all animal bones (besides the fact they come from animals), that would make him throw up?

He doesn't feed him the bones any longer, and the bones that he throws up that I know of are Pork Bones (from ribs) and steak bones. He doesn't puke the day/night he eats them either. Usually the next day.

Pieces and small chunks of bone gets caught in his throat and teeth, irritating the throat,so a natural reflex is to throw up.He may also be eating the bones too fast, not taking time to properly swallow, and the pieces tickle his throat halfway down..so..here we go..hope your brother dont feed Fish,Bird,or Pork bones..they can splinter into needlesharp pieces and get stuck(and-or puncture)his intestines..not a good thing.Only give rawhidebones,or Cowbones and the like.Hope this helped.

There's a chance that the bones that he ate shattered and splintered as the pup was chewing on them. Because he swallowed them and is now vomiting it probably means your brother's dog is probably choking or has a shard of bone agitating his throat, triggering a gag reflex. Which basically means that he'll puke.
Try to prevent the pup from eating these bones.
Good luck, hope this helps,

Contrary to popular belief, bones are not good for your dog. The advantages of tooth cleaning can be acheived by means of a good professional chew toy which will not bung up your pet's digestive tract.

Bones aren't really good for dogs. There's a chance of the dog choking if he gobbles it up too fast(better to cut the bones into bite-sized pieces). And if you give dogs/puppies hard, sharp, pointy bones, there's a good chance it will tear his throat. Cartilage is good for them. =)

DO NOT FEED ANY DOG BONES EVER!!!! I dont care who says its alright,,its not! They can splinter & cause internal bleeding & death. They can punture the throat,,stomach,,intestines etc. & wear down the teeth. PLEASE,,give dogs rawhide chewies only except if they are too old to digest them.
