I am not referring to the chain in the ground people. I mean the heavy chain collars like the ones you buy in the hardware store. Does this make a difference in your answer now?

I have heard yes, but it will certainly sour his disposition. Dogs were not meant to be chained!

I'm not sure, but don't use those chains that are hooked into the ground.

I had a labridoor and he took the part sticking in the ground and twisted it with his mouth and pulled the chain out and ran around the block with the long chain attached to her. Luckily she made it home safe though. She was about a year old.

If a labridoor can run a few blocks carrying a chain then a 7 month old rotti should have no problem with a heavy chain- just make sure you dont make him go out in the yard all day with the chain- make sure you treat him well and give him breaks.

muscles nead 1 day to rip and one day to repair so just remember try the chain thing but not every day. And dont start off too heavy!

Why would you want to torture him to build muscles?? Can you imagine how that would feel? That poor puppy trying to drag a heavy chain around all of the time? Chances are, you'd end up with an aggressive dog out of frustration! A good diet helps build strong muscles and Rotts are strong anyway. My sister never not ONE TIME put chains on her Rotts (she bred for a short time) and all of them were nice, strong bodied dogs. Please don't do this, that is just inhumane!

You mean around his neck? The poor thing is going to get so tired of straining to hold his head up he'll become submissive. Not a trait you want in a Rotti I think. Let nature do it's job, feed him a proper diet and exercise him regularly. That's all you need to do, leave the stupid chain at the store. Or better yet, wear it yourself.

Proper food, daily exercise will build up his muscles. He will be close to 2 before he totally fills out. Do not put the chain on him.

You should not do this. How would you like a big heavy chain wrapped around your neck. A good pet owner that loves their dog trys to make it as comfortable as possible.

No, I am worried it might injure his neck and cause the muscles to droop: feeding him the right foods and giving him lots of execise will build up his muscles. Please be sure his collar is not too tight as he grows - you should be able to insert two fingers between him and his collar.

They love tug of war and fetch and hide the toy

They are happy when they think they are working for you.

I have a Rotty GrandDog and he is a valued member of the family. They are lovely dogs if treasured and well kept.

You have a wonderful companion and member of your family please do not make him a status symbol of macho man.

Are you planning to make him mean? Please dont!!He will be miserable with a chain around his neck, imagine yourself in that situation, tied down by a heavy chain..NO....exercise him by playing ball, swimming(Perfect exercise for the whole body)if weather permits, and grow his muscle naturally by feeding him highprotein, good quality dogfood,he will love you for that. And you will have a well muscled, faithful companion for many years to come...that chain idea is classified as animal cruelty and abuse..dont walk that walk...run...play..throw sticks..swim...you will have a beautiful, loving dog and people will notice how well cared for he is...that reflects back on you,and all will be well...maybe if more people treated their big dogs well, they wouldnt have to turn on their owners..or neighbors..or kids...THINK...love conquers all things and makes them beautiful.

It would be much better for the dog to build up his muscles naturally. =) Nice, healthy, vet-recommended food and adequate exercise can build up his muscles and he'll be happy along the way. =) If you have to tie him up, try a nice leather colar and connect it to the chain. =)
