My girlfriend has a lot of Jessica Simpson moments... her whole family does, actually... it bugs me... we never have intellectually stimulating conversation... but she is really good to me. has this happened to anyone else and do they learn to love all their mate's imperfections? (i realize im not perfect, too, but for some reason it's hard for me to get over this particular thing...)

today she told me a story about her dad... he said something like this seriously: "i don't want to go to elephant bar! do i look like i want to eat elephant??" and she said her and the rest of her family were cracking up sooooooooo much. and i felt bad and sad for him... and sad that it was her dad that said that (the apple doesn't fall far from the tree). i felt kinda out of place with her whole family when she told me that because i wouldn't think that was funny... just sad.

I think that in the long run, you will not be happy with someone who is not your equal in intelligence. I know it is a hard decision to make, because you like her and she is good to you, but as the years go by, you will want someone with whom you can have intellectually stimulating conversations, and someone who shares your sense of humor. If you marry this girl, and perhaps have children, I predict that you will eventually meet the woman you should be with, and then you will be getting a divorce and breaking the hearts of your wife and children and both families.

Honestly? I feel sorry for you but I also feel sorry for her.
.
You are calling her your girlfriend, so I take it you have been seeing her for awhile. You know her parents and her family and you haven't noticed these feelings before now? How sad. Sometimes the age difference can make things uncomfortable. If you can't share things with her and feel your uncomfortable just talking to her how are you going to have a future with her. You have to feel good with the person you are laughing and sharing with. Anyway I guess all you can do is search your own heart. It will either take you back to her or drive you away.

But really after this question it sounds as if you are already gone at least in your mind and heart.

If you are going to look down on her and her family for the rest of your lives, leave. THey sound like good people if not mensa members. You can not fix stupid. It will not get better.

i guess by intelligence you're not meaning book knowledge.
personally, it's important. If my mate can't hold a nice conversation, it won't work.
looks and heart isn't everything, there must be a spark
