Anyone know of a device built to put on your phone line which will tell you the incoming # without resorting to a sacm know as a "subscription" to read it off a phone, etc(lan-line).

The data is already there(just like a radio station coming through, but you don't have to GUESS what your tuned into), and I just don't need or desire to pay for something needlessly.

Thanks!

I'm afraid your logic is a little flawed, although I doubt it will change your viewpoint on the "scam" concept. If the data was already there, then your phone would already show it. The reason the data is not there is because this if fully controlled by your telecom provider before the signal leaves their interconnect (phone call router-server), long before it reaches the demarcation point in your house. You can spend a long time looking for a device that will show a caller-id signal that is not there.

You can switch to Vonage and you don't have to pay extra fees for caller id service.

We switched from Qwest to Cox and no longer pay the fees either. No device needed, just the regular phone that picks up caller id and with no extra charges!
