I find forming groups, or maybe even simply relocating helps. I know sitting in my dorm room I'll want to play on my laptop or take a nap before I would ever study. So I relocate to a room that offers little or no distractions, like our floor's study lounge, which consists of a table and chairs.
If it helps at all, listening to music might work. Sometimes a little sound keeps me motivated, unless you need complete silence, which might not be for you if you're bored.
Taking notes keeps me focused too, and my hands occupied so I feel like I'm actually doing something.
If all else fails, form a study group. Interaction is usually a good idea to help prevent boredom, even if it's simply studying with one other person. I find we make jokes about the information and it helps us retain. For instance, in Art History, we made the connection that the four artists that are Ninja Turtles are from Florence. And to remember the parts of an enlarger, I... well... associated them with slang terms related to the penis. Something to giggle about, but it really helped. (Shows my maturity level!)
Good luck!

My motivation for high school and lower was that good grades let me get out of the house. Initially as longer curfews (although I had to stay in a few times to study in order to spend the next quarter having fun) and later being able to get enough grants and scholarships to escape the state.

By college the vast majority of classes you take will be interesting since you get to choose your focus. Freshman seminars are rather boring, but those are generally one or two classes taken over two semesters. Also they are rarely study intensive.

Choose a specific place to study so when you sit there your body tells you that it is study time. Try taking notes and colour coding them depending on the topic. Say as in Romeo and Juliet any references to fate could be coded blue and public duty Green. It makes the study more fun and helps to prompt your mind as you associate green to a certain topic which then brings it to the fore in your mind. Use highlighters as well and post it notes for pages again colour code them. Also use songs and poems to make you remember. My daughter remembered over 50 legal laws by turning them into a song for her exam. So when she needed the information she just sang it in her head. All these ideas come from my very talented daughter who is a high achiever and an A+++ student who has just completed her VCE. She studied way too much and we had more of a problem getting her to stop studying, but I know these techniques work as I have seen them in use. Good Luck

studying is interesting, because its the only time i can study and not work. my parents would provide for my needs, but when working, i have to worry about my needs myself. you can go out with a group of very hardworking friends at the library, so there is peer pressure studying. you can be under the eye of a guardian, or parent, or teacher. jus remember: studying time is the best time of your life! you will understand when you grow up =)

Well, one of the most effective ways I made studying interesting for me was to take a semester off of college and wait tables for a few months. Studying seemed much more interesting after that!
