I have had an obsession with religion for awhile, attempting to identify where I "belonged." But the more I thought about it, the more my beliefs faded....
Am I not supposed to question God?
Does reason lead to Atheism?

Reason might lead to Atheism ... but faith leads you to Christianity. Honestly, if you have not read the Bible for yourself I definitely recommend it. Just read it like you would any other book/work of literature - then you can decide for yourself based on what YOU read and not what you heard from other sources.

I have 2 strong elements in my nature. One is the very analytical, reasoning side. And the other is the very devotional side. When I become predominantly the reasoning, analytical person, I am basically an Agnostic. But that is not the part of me which practices religion. The strongest element in my personality is this part I'll call "devotional." I just have a strong yearning to be devoted to what I call God. And that yearning finds fulfillment, and so this part of me assumes there must be something that can be called "God" which fulfills it.

As confusing as this may sound, I do not feel torn. I feel that this is an asset because of what I feel led to do in life, which is teach religious studies in a college setting. I want for my students to think, reason, and face facts. But I also do not want those of them who feel a need for spirituality to think that they must abandon this part of them. If nothing else, I respect the metaphor of religion, and the various religious traditions. And I want my students to sense that I do not condemn their particular religious path, while at the same time teaching scholarly theories about religion.

If you are bothered by becoming an Atheist, perhaps it is because you also have a part of you that longs for some kind of spirituality. I believe that spirituality is possible even as an Atheist, and that there is nothing to really fear about it.

being an athiest i would say yes but not allways.

in the age of enlightenment in europe (around newtons time) religion was reason. the great mathmatitions and astronomers and astrophysicists were trying to use math and science t prove god was real. Blaise Pascel attempted to use math to prove god was real and this was reason. reason means a lot of differentr things to different people. spiritual people say it is only logical that god exists because how could existance be a mistake and how couold humans have evolved from fish and monkeys. but others beleive that existance is a fluke and find evolution to be compleately logical and be perfectly reasonible. so no reason doesnt lead to athiesm (although personly i would prefer religion abolished because it seems to cause tons of issues) and if i am wrong that is up to you to decide based on your personal reason.

see what i mean reason leads to ideas wether your ideas are that god is real or god is not real is up to you and the ideas you come up with.

Even Jesus questioned God from the cross when He asked, "My God, My God! Why hast thou forsaken me?" So you are not to beat yourself up over that. There is a place in the Bible which says, "There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." So, perhaps that is warning us against the "reason that leads to atheism" that you speak of. I personally love science. I have two microscopes and everytime I use them I marvel at God's intricate handywork. My faith grows as I study nature. I hope you don't lose your faith. The fact that you're concerned about losing it says something about you. I think you are wise to question things. But science has changed it's mind about some things over the years. God has never changed His. So please be careful. Perhaps you should question science as much as you question God. Good luck. I will remember you in my prayers.

You can be very reasonable and still be religious. You just might find that you don't buy into everything they try to teach. But you can still have whatever kind of relationship you want with God.

Reason can lead to atheism or agnosticism but it is not always the outcome.

If reason doesn't lead to atheism then it's faulty and specious So don't claim to be an atheist till your integrity finds it truthful that's only my personal insight. and you can't question a god that doesn't exist only the concept of a god presented by others. most atheists have their feet on the ground not in the clouds .
they place their beliefs in a reality of fact not the land of nowhere.
Everything is nothing in the land of nowhere....
regardless peaceout

God loves you! He is your Father in Heaven! Maybe you haven't searched far enough yet. If you truly want the answers you seek. Then keep reading the scriptures and keep praying while you read. Yes you are supposed to question God. But ask him directly, don't go to outside sources to search for the truth that is found only thru prayer, study and faith. As you pray, see him in your mind. Ask him the questions you need answered. He will answer you. You only have to accept what he tells you. It is usually a quiet, soft whispering feeling of love that envelops your body and soul. And you will know that he has answered!!

Atheism is the professed belief that there is no god. If that is what you deep down honestly think is true then you are an atheist.

If you have questions about the existence of a Higher being, you should try to answer them. Do alot of soul searching.I am going trough some tough times spiritually now as well. Right now I feel as if I don't belong anywhere. Its not easy being green.....
Follow your heart and mind until they agree, and see where they lead you.

I believe God would not have given us the ability to reason if He didn't expect us to question Him.If your not questioning, your probably not really thinking. There are sooo many questions. However, after all these years,I am able to look back on my life and see all the times the Lord has helped me and I don't question so much as i've learned to trust.

Yes, question everything you are asked to blindly believe. You're believing in a God or Higher Power doesn't have to be wrapped up in a religion.
