Jesus was very unique I think. He was big on giving to the poor, and he was tough on the rich! Jesus actually said that:" it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven"! Jesus was also very forgiving! As far as political stance is concerned. If Jesus was a politician: He would have been an Independent. But some of his views are what alot of conservatives would call "liberal" but only if it where you and I. Sense its Jesus they try to cover up how compassionate of a man Jesus really was! Jesus commanded one man to give everything he had to the poor!!! And he was a rich man! Christ comdemns the rich many times in the new testament. He is not referring so much as to how much money they have. It has more to do with the state of their heart. In other words its okay to have money, but money is not to be the governing god of your life! Jesus would oppose Gay Marriage and Abortion. So; A moderate Democrat?

Here's the rub: I'm a gay, conservative Republican. Jesus demanded charity . . . not from Rome, but from each individual (note the story in Gospel about the older woman who contributed a penny, but had given more than any other). Likewise, taking care of the poor is a personal obligation . . . not one to be delegated to the government to take care of for you.

The scripture passages you cite can be interpreted differently. Christ did not have contempt for the wealthy; he had contempt for those who failed to use their wealth for the betterment of his / her brother. We're not to take this literally and all go sell all of our belongings and live on the street. Beyond the impracticality of this, it's not fitting with what God would want for his people.

Seek out what it means to be a Democrat or a Republican. You might just find out that both are compassionate in their own way.

At the time Jesus walked the earth his teachings where revolutionary & liberal.. for the JEWISH community. not for Roman, Greece etc..who were pretty wide open in their morals.Today his teachings are ultra conservative, sometimes even in the Christian communities. Scary!
Jesus did not condemn the rich, but that particular man. He could not choose following the path of right over his wealth. It was a test, which he failed. There are many "Idols" in our lives wealth is just one of them. ANY thing that is more important to you than he is is standing in your way. As you said when money governs us not Christ it is the statement of our hearts.
Blessed be

I doubt Jesus would sanction gay marriage, but other than that, yes, he would have made a fine "moderate" or even "leftist" (esp. politically) Democrat! Too bad he was mortal....We could use him now!

Addendum: to Brubo: How THE HELL can anyone be gay AND a Republican???! (openly, anyway)

trying to affiliate Jesus with a political party is like hiring a hooker to do your taxes. it's just plain dumb. Jesus is Jesus. he would not oppose gay marriage. why? because he taught us tolerance and compassion. I'm pretty sure there aren't any politicians out there with much of that.

From what I read in the bible, Jesus comes off as a hippy with crazy powers. That would probably be liberal to you.

Definitely a Democrat. Moderate? No. He was radical in His time. He would be radical in this time. He would turn water into wine at the wedding of the gay couple.

Agree with most you say, but really Jesus was a rebel, he did not go along with the government.

Wrong on both counts..........He is the Son of God
He opposed sin...........in all forms......regardless of money........And the reason for eye of a camel...the rich are more concerned with self and money..........King Solomon was the richest man that ever lived and a favorite of God. Ask yourself why?

Total hippie. Come on, long hair, carpenter, liked wine, hung out with degenerates and prostitutes--the guy was all about love and peace. I wish there were more people like him today.
