that depends on the kind of women you hang around with and if you have to ask that question you should probably find some new ones

I think it is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately, the gentlemanly acts have been used for not so noble ends. This has bred a major mistrust in girls. It appears that guys only act respectful when they want something. I always appreciate a door held by a stranger and I make extra effort to make eye contact and thank any young man who does this.
Do you ever wonder why so many girls like to hang around with "gay" guys?? It's because we don't feel preyed upon. Girls really don't like being hunted - which leads to a kill most of the time. We want to feel safe and cared for.
If your intent is truly noble, if you truly just want to honor and respect women, it is a very good thing. If you only do it to "get the girl" -- then don't bother, living a lie is pretty hard to keep up and just further propagates the notion that men are scum.

I think people in general treat each other very badly these days so it would depend on the woman. Personally, I really like it when a guy is a gentleman and holds the door for me, pulls a chair out for me, etc. I would think if someone prefered to be slapped around they would have self esteem issues but that's just my opinion.

A gentleman, please. They are an endangered kind, and I pity the generation who will wake up one day and realize there are none left. Just make sure you are actually acting like a gentleman and not just saying your "please" and "thank you"s and opening doors like a robot. Part of being a gentleman is being sincere in your actions. Just as one can lie with words, one can lie with actions, so make sure yours are true and never give anyone reason to doubt your good intent. When trying to act like a gentleman, you always run the risk of being labeled as a fake, that you're just putting up a front. But if you truly do want to be a gentleman, ignore those words and be true to what a gentleman should be. Eventually others (namely the ladies hopefully) will see that you are sincere and your honest respect for them will earn their respect for you. Good luck, and please, don't contribute to the end of the age of gentlemen!

The only time a woman would like to be slapped around is if she is a masochist. No sane woman wants to be hurt. Woment want to be treated well and respected. Therefore, yes be a gentleman. Make it part of who you are.
