I looked up code po171 and it's a Engine air fuel mixture running too lean. I would check your Oxygen Sensors and the EGR. If they check out good, you might just have a manifold problem (very notorious on fords). Rule out bad injectors because you'd be plowing white smoke (incomplete combustion) and you'd have a very bad tick sound out of the motor.

I also have a ninety 8 V6 with 153,000 miles I even have owned for over 9 years. it particularly is a large automobile, very stable, has in no way made me walk homestead. I even have twin exhaust too, besides as chilly air intake, throttle physique spacer, and that i've got reflashed the workstation with a Predator tuner. I nonetheless get 30 mpg on the line. the only factor i'd exchange on my automobile is extra skill. It got here with a hundred and fifty hp inventory, which isn't sufficient. Oh and by the way, the 5.0 V8 purely went as much as 1995. From 1996 on, it exchange into the 4.6 V8. I even have heard the ninety 4-ninety 5 V6 had head gasket worry, yet they could have fixed it by ninety 8 because of the fact mine are effective.

You are reading a lean/rich mixture. One of the two since p171 is a lean code and p172 is a rich code. Your car has upstream and downstream oxygen sensors. Your problem definately sounds like an oxygen sensor, as they control the lean/rich mixture of fuel to air on your car, especially once the car is warmed up.
