Ok, dandruff is NOT the stuff you get when your scalp is dry. (when proctor and gamble made head & shoulders they started to advertise for their anti-dandruff shampoo. Well, if they could convinse people that a dry scalp was dandruff all the more $ for them. and that's just what they did.) dandruff is actually a fungus infection where your skin get all yellowy and peels (not flakes) off. Please pass this information on to other people. That way they can stop wasting their money on stuff they don't need and get stuff that they could actually use. thank you.

Pityriasis is the medical term for dandruff, which is characterized by the excessive production and accumulation of skin cells. Instead of the normal shedding of individual skin cells, one at a time, dandruff results from the accumulation of clumps of cells large enough to be visible on the scalp, hair, and sholders.
There are 2 types of dandruff.
1) Pityriasis capitis simplex is the the technical term for classic dandruff that is characterized by scalp irritation, large flakes, and itchy scalp. The scales may attach to the scalp in masses, scatter loosely in the hair, or fall to the shoulders. Regular use of antidandruff shampoos, conditioners, and topical lotions are the best treatment.
2) Pityriasis steatoides is a more severe case of dandruff characterized by an accumulation of greasy or waxy scalp scales, mixed with sebum (oil in the scalp), that stick to the scalp in crusts. When accompanied by redness and inflammation the medical term is seborrheic dermatitis. Occasionally, seborrheic dermatitis can be found in the eyebrows or beard.

Dandruff is a condition that's caused by dryness of the scalp.It's little flakes of dry scalp.Some people have more extreme cases than others and may need a special shampoo to solve the problem.

Dandruft is caused by a dry scalp, the dandruft itself is flakes of skin dry skin from your scalp. i know its disgusting, if you have it i would use head & sholders or some other type of shampoo for dandruft just look through the shampoos and conditiones at the store you normally buy your shampoo.

A dry scalp, not washing your hair and scalp completely thro..also sometimes it can be that your not washing out your hair completely
