When I was a poor girl, I just tithed grocery store coupons I save from the Sunday news paper. One time I just dropped a fist full of nice buttons in the offering plate, so someone might find a match for their shirt as it was passed back.

You give 10% of what you have some Sundays I go to church I don't have money to tithe with I am a stay at home mom. So there for 10% of this computer I am on right now is given to God's House (The Church), by doing all Administrative work for the church. My car is given in offering by picking up someone who may not have a ride to church. When I stopped working to stay at home I built a web site for our church which my husband pays for and I maintain. Money is not the only way to give 10%

Tithing was a requirement under the law during Old Testament times and was necessary to support the Levitical priesthood!
The only mention of tithing in the Gospels is where the Lord told certain religious leeders of his day that effectively they should have keept the law which included tithing. From the book of Acts to Revelations the only mention about giving is that every man should give as he supposes in his heart. We are not under the law of Moses as we are Gentiles and I can't find a single requirement in the New Testament which obliges us to engage in giving 10% as we are totally under grace!

Well, tithing it optional, it's between you and God. If any church tells you that you -have- to tithe, don't go to that church. The phrase, "I put in my two cents" comes from the Bible, when the woman gave two cents, and Jesus..or someone, I can't remember where in the Bible this was, tells it to all the rich people, "This woman gave more than all of you." I'm paraphrasing. The rich people gave a lot more than two cents worth, but those two cents were -all- that woman had, it was more for her to give that than what the rich people gave.

Hey! Is that a ruler or an on/off switch? Theoretical is fun and all, but in actual practice, greed can give you a good indicator of just how corrupt any particular organization might be. If you want to know something about an outfit, look at how the money moves around. Use that ruler to measure, cutie.

i must say that i love how you bait people into these questions. and more than that i love to see the responses. in light of their response to the last question.
give someone enough rope and he will eventually hang himself.

oh and just so that i cannot be reported for not answering the question.
my church. and i do mean that it is mine. does not only not require tithing. we do not allow it. it is the beauty of Paganism. no building ,no costs, all worship is as simple as a meal and a quiet spot outdoors. religion is free no costs attached.
i have tried to ask the gods for the exact price for that buss ticket to a peacful afterlife but they insist on covering the charge themselves. above that i can not see any reason why someone would need money. or require payment to teach somebody about their religion.

Acctually the bible says something about this. A poor woman entered the church and gave the only 2 pennies she had(granted that there were no pennies in biblical days... work with me, i dont remember the name of the currency). A rich man came in the church and gave a lot of money. Then it was said that she was thought of more in God's eyes since she gave all she had even though the man gave more.

Any church that would keep a person out for not tithing, is not a church worth going to.

Think about the parable of the woman who gave her last coin. Jesus said she gave more than any, even the rich who gave large somes of money, because she gave everything she had.
God bless,
