Gen. 9:4 says: "Only flesh with its soul--its blood--you must not eat."
Odindmar says: "Getting a blood transfusion is not eating. It is injected into your system in order to save your life. Not an act against God's will." This is not true. In a hospital, when a patient cannot eat through his mouth, he is fed intravenously. Now, would a person who never put blood into his mouth but who accepted blood by transfusion really be obeying the command to "keep abstaining froom...blood? (Acts 15:29) To use a comparison, consider a man who is told by the doctor that he must abstain from alcohol. Would he be obedient if he quit drinking alcohol but had it put directly in his veins?

No.
Eating is the the act of consuming the blood. A voluntary act against God's will.
Getting a blood transfusion is not eating. It is injected into your system in order to save your life. Not an act against God's will. Though, I can understand where the distinction can get blurry. Best wishes.

in the days of the writing of the bible, eating meat with blood in it could be like taking poison. blood becomes tainted very quickly without refrigeration. that was why blood is mentioned, a commonsense warning.

Acts 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
Acts 21:25 As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.
