Iams is just another mediocre grocery store brand, as are Purina products. When you learn to read pet food labels you'll understand that Science Diet is some of the worst crap on the market!

Check this out:

When you read this you'll know more about feline nutrition than most vets, and you'll know how to read a cat food label. Along with the nutritional information there's lots of information about specific brands. That's on the sidebar menu under "Commercial Cat Food Choices."

Here's a good place to find a lot of the good quality brands that you won't find in grocery stores:

They don't carry every top brand but they have most of them, and they're bound to have one that your kitty will like.

The animal cruelty part is right for the Iams, but how do we know others aren't doing the same thing behind closed doors?
Anyways Iams is pretty good ive been told by vets. But if you can afford to spend a little more Royal Canin, and Science diet are better.
The 11month old should be eating a kitten brand made for cats under 6 months, and the one year old should be on an adult brand. oh..and thepersian may get hairballs easier, so you may want to pick a brand that has a hairball control.

If Iams and other grocery store brands were as terrible as some people make them out to be there'd be a lot more sick and dead cats. Some cats do fine on those brands of food, thrive and live long healthy lives. The best advice is to at least make sure some sort of meat is the first ingredient listed. If you want to go for something higher quality then look for something that doesn't have some sort of by-product listed as the type of meat.

I fed my kittens the regular IAMs until, well, they were no longer kittens. I have very healthy cats; one is 16 and the other two are 6. My 16 year old has a history of feline Urinary Tract Syndrome, and he had a cat friend a year younger then him who died of kidney failure at age 9 because I was feeding her the Urinary Tract food before her kidneys were fully developed, so if you have other cats with health issues, check with a vet to make sure you're feeding something they all can safely eat.

It's good food for your cat but Purina has good ones too. Also I read something about makers of the Iams that they experiment and harm animals. Iams is also expensive so keep that in mind unless you don't have money issues.

Yes. I would continue giving both kitten food for another month, then switch to adult(they need kitten food until a year old, but the extra time won't hurt the older kitty while the female catches up).

Iams is an overpriced mediocre food. California Natural, Innova and Nutro are much better choices.

Yes, if they'll eat it. Ask your vet for advice too. They have a full line of animal foods. Limit the amount of dry food you give to the male, though. Dry cat food, regardless of brand, contains ash and easily causes urinary tract infections in males, which can be fatal if left untreated.

Innova is the best quality cat food for them. A less expensive, yet good food is Purina ONE.
