i think you did the right thing- but i feel you may be letting people take advantage of you- should he be mad? whats that about? why worry about that? he should be reported to the manager, when EVERYONE works together as a team things get done alot faster and they are alot more happier and people would really enjoy and love going to their jobs. really life is to short, people now days need to love each other just as they would want to be loved and treated.

Go speak to the manager and make sure that you are only supposed to buss a table if its extremely busy. If that guy is sitting around, he can do his own grunt work. You are a hostess and supposed to be greeting and placeing people in the area. If he continues to hassle you, make sure you seat his section with fewer people and then he will have plenty of time to buss his own tables lol. You have the power, use it for the greater good if hes a loser.

No and no. He's trying to take advantage of you being new on the job. A hostess is supposed to get people into seats. If it's busy, you might have to clear some tables to get people in seats. If you have the time to ask "who is supposed to be cleaning these tables right now?" then you should do so. Isn't there a busboy? You don't want to get all dirty. You have to greet people at the door.

No you should not feel guilty...as a matter of fact I admire you for saying what you said to him!! Go Girl.
Should he be mad....well yeah only because you called him out so he is pissed.whatever right?!

Thumper was right seat his table less, you have the power he was trying to take it, because your new, but your smart. So seat him less and he will come with his tail between his legs before you know it.
If he complains your didn't seat him say "ohh I don't have time to bus your table tonight"

It sounds like you're already angry.

Here's is what I would to. Take some time to compose your thoughts and put them on paper. This will give you a chance to say completely what you wanted to say. Place it some where the manager will find it. And hope he has the good sense to nip this one in the bud.

You did the right thing. Talk to your supervisor if this continues. I'm sure you have other duties that you should be attending to instead of doing his job for him.

Ask your store manager to explain to this guy what the rules are. You did the right thing.
