ask dumb questions...and maybe you'll get a laugh

Make light of the situation honey. Simply say "alright, I've racked my brain for something to say and I've got nothing....your turn". That sort of puts the responsibility of finding something to talk about on him and takes the awkwardness off of you. If that fails and more silence continues, start off with "A guy walks into a bar with a duck..." and then stop, he'll look at you, you'll laugh and just say that you were trying. At worst, you'll have a good laugh and either end up telling each other jokes, or he'll realize he has a girl that has a sense of humor who is not into the silent treatment.

Wish ya luck hon...when you get to my age...sometimes silence is golden!

personally, i just feel the space and try to decide if its an "awkard silence" or a "comfortable" one. Just have to recognize that every moment doesnt have to be filled with words, and sometimes, when people are able to be quiet with one another, and still feel good and at peace, those are the best of times.

So, when im walking along, and there is silence between us, i use my personal guage and am, in that same moment, silently thankful that we comfortable enough with other that words arent always necessary.

BUT if it really bugs you, im sure a "you know what im thinking about?" or asking "what are you thinking about?" then listening attentively (or thoughtfully speaking yr mind) cannot possibly hurt...and may lead to some more profound conversation, or feeling-finding.

but i have to honestly say a few moments of silence is far better than senseless, nervous chatter....on any given day

Say what comes to mind. :)

I just start talking about random things. Eventually I hit on something that the other person finds interesting and then go from there.

It sounds to me like you may be afraid of saying the wrong thing. Don't be. You can learn alot about someone, even if you say the wrong thing. If you say the wrong thing, you can always change the subject (and/or apologize). Say nothing at all, and you learn nothing at all.

Well that's your problem on thinking what hes going to think about you. When your to busy worrying, you tend to hesitate on what to say.Just try to be calm and you Will start talking like nothing. I know how that feels and I've been in that situation on not knowing what to say. I'm quit some times but its all right things come to mind if you don't worry

Pull the back of their shirt or jacket and plant a small sweet kiss on the cheek.
If you are not with a romantic interest say you know the problem with too much silence? We are both thinking about things we should be talking about.

Speak your mind girl, and be honest. Ask him something that you want to know about him, and be ready to answer when he asks you back. I know you're into the guy, but your relationship can't go anywhere if you don't reveal your true self. A foundation of lies and secrets is bound to crack.

As long as it's not an awkward silence your fine. Just enjoy the scenery and the moment. Guys usually aren't really big on jabbing anyway.

Good Luck

Start talking sports if you want to talk, or better yet, most guys dream of a silent girlfriend!! If you don't want to be silent take off all of your clothes and then see what he has to say :)
