I hit a dog with my car tonight....it was oviously an accident...i slammed on my breaks and it was too late. i ran to the house and told them... i feel absolutly horrible... i called them 2 hours later to see how the dog was and if it was okay. and all the owners said was "HES FINE & DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT". but i have a gut feeling they sh** him or something because i don't think he would be fine after 2 hours...maybe they just wanted to be nice and not tell me he died??/ somebody please make me feel better!~

You did everything you could do. It was an accident you tried to avoid. You told the owners immediately. You called later to ask how the dog was. They shut you out. That is not your fault. They should not have let the dog out where it could wander into the road. Now the dog is hurt and you are suffering because you have a conscience and you CARE about what happened.
Take it easy with yourself. You did what you could. Sorry it happened. Hope you will be alright. You have a kind heart.

I'll make you feel better mmm...
-over 50,000 puppies are born each day in the U.S. alone! so there's definetly enough dogs out their
-listen to a happy song
-you could give the owners a get well soon card or a death card...but you probably don't know which one was the outcome so probably just a i'm sorry card
-go buy a puppy for yourself-seriously it sounds dumb but it will show yourself that you didn't really mean to hurt the other dog (which you didn't but that's why your guilty) it''ll calm your guilt
-if the dog is alive go buy it a toy
-donate to a animal shelter
-keep your mind off the situation
idk just random stuff--i'm real sorry bud , but its not ur fault just call the owners one last time to see what condidtion the dog is actually in first--and if all else fails time heals everything<3

I hit and killed a baby kitten once and I cried for two days straight. It sounds like you are an animal lover. Just remember that what you did was not intentional....it was an accident. And, the chances of someone who drives hitting some type of animal at some point in their life is almost 100%. So, be proud of yourself that you didn't just drive away as many people would do. You did everything you could to help the animal...whether it lived or died. Go on with your life knowing that you are a decent and kind human being. That puts you way above the majority of the population in this country.

Im really sorry that that happened. But you did slam on your breaks which proves you tried to prevent it from happening but it was out of your hands. The owner's cant have cared about the dog that much if thats all they had said. Dont worry things happen like this all the time, my dog got runover by my own uncle, we cried for a while and my uncle didnt care which made it that much harder. But if he had cared like you we would have felt so much better, you're a good person that ended up in a bad situation, that's all.

Try not to think about it. I hit a runaway dog once myself. He just ran into the highway from a farmhouse and I couldn't help it! I pulled over, crying like a baby while the owner came out. He was so nonchalant and I was bawling to this total stranger. It's like he didn't care at all! And said "I guess we shouldn't have let him run loose." What a jerk, to not care about a pet running loose on a public highway! So I was crying over killing the dog and mad as hell at his response.

It took a long time to get that out of my head. I'm a total dog lover myself and I went home and hugged my dog and cried. But it will get better, really.

You did the right thing and you should be proud of the fact that you handled the situation so well. Most people don't care like you do, that makes you a very good person. Also you did not get hurt or killed. Remember if the dog is gone that "All dogs go to heaven" Cheer up baby girl you are not to blame.

i hit a dog once and it took me about a month to get over it cause I couldnt just drive off and the owner came out and picked her up out of the road and shot it with his pistel cause there was nothing to be done with the dog cause I ran over it on his head,,,, you did the right thing by stopping and telling the owners and you even called them and seen if the dog was ok and im sure if the dog died they would have told you,,,, like the other person said I wouldnt call them agian cause if it did die they need time to grieve,,, in a couple of weeks if it is still botherin you then take him a big bone and go and check on him,,,, God bless you that you stoped its ok to be sad but it was an accedent,,, you will feel better soon

I would feel absolutely horribe too. I am sure they know it was an accident. If they did do something maybe he wasnt living the best life anyways, as if a blessing in disguise. That's why people need to train their dogs and know where they are at at all times. I am sure u feel bad, but there is nothing u can do. Try and smile!

Hun...I'm sure the dog's fine. If it had died I am sure they would have told you. I had a dog that got hit once and the only thing that happened to him was severe road rash. It's okay...don't worry about it. You did the right thing and admitted what you did wrong. It was an accident, it's not like you meant to do it. Sleep well and know that all is okay. Hey....leave it God...aight?
