Work on being friends for now. If you haven't really hung out with him since you were kids, you don't really know what he's like one-on-one. He may be completely different than he used to be, and you may not even like him the way you think you do. I went through something similar. Sometimes curiosity can present itself as attraction. He's probably gotten a lot better looking than he was when you were kids and now you look at him as a "guy" and not that kid you used to play with. I don't know when it happends, but it seems like anytime you know someone of the opposite sex from childhood, one day you just look at them differently...even if you haven't really spoken to them in a while. Okay, that was a long way to say, try being his friend and see what happends.

If he is a friend for life, he will not hate you or think badly of you. Be aware to be the best you can be without being pretentious. He obviously knows you well and will be flattered at the least by your attraction. The best advise I can give you is to be feminine....the way a girl is. And take out those darned body rings and get those tattoos removed!

Tell him!!! If you don't, you'll probably grow apart over the years anyway, and you'll always be what if? He may feel the same way, and be avoiding you for that reason. The worst case scenario is he doesn't feel the same way, but at least you'll know, and any awkwardness between you will probably fade. Either way you'll no longer be stressing over it, so in essence you win.

How can you be so sure he wouldn't go out with you? Is he taken or something? If it doesn't benefit your relationship with him to let him know, then don't tell him.
If you are so certain that you and he wouldn't go out together, then why tell him? Either way you are just friends. On the one hand you'd be friends with him knowing (you love him) and on the other hand you're friends without him knowing that. Either way you're just friends--if it's not going to improve the FRIENDSHIP, don't tell him.

I think you should tell him. There's nothing to be afraid of. It's best that you tell him because in the future you may wonder what would've happened if you would've asked him.
Maybe he feels the way you feel about him but he's too afraid to say it like you are.
Tell him so you won't have regrets.

No, don't tell him you love him. Keep it to yourself until you know he feels the same way too. In the meantime you can work on being friends then develop a romantic relationshop.

tell him how you feel. it could be that he has feeling for you and since you didn't seem to be interested he distanced himself from you. guys are kind of weird like that. if worst comes to worst since you really don't talk to him much anyway then you wont be embarassed if he says no
