it might not be a matter of your behavior. they might have other reasons, such as just not wanting another dog. they do cost a lot to maintain. i suggest just keeping up the hard work because if you give up in trying, they won't think you are ready to take care of one. also, try taking on more responsibility for your "lazy" dog. the puppy will turn into an older "lazier" dog also, and you can't just get a new puppy each time the other one gets old!

No dog is a lazy dog unless you let it be lazy!! You should take your dog out for walks every day and cut back on feeding it so much food. It's like people, if they love food and you offer it to them all the time, they're going to take the food whether they are hungry or full!!
Have you ever thought maybe that is also why they won't get you a dog? Labradors are VERY active dogs and need a LOT of walking. They can not get fat or over-weight because that can cause them to have hip or elbow dysplasia and heart problems which can lead to a lot of money going into vet bills and an early death for the dog.
Responsibility at school isn't the only thing you need to prove. Are you an active person or are you a lazy, couch potato? If you are lazy and want an active dog, I suggest going for a 30 minute walk each day to prove that you are going to take the dog for 2 walks EACH AND EVERY DAY!!
If they won't get you one and the reason is because you already have one; why aren't you happy with the one you've got? You can take that dog for walks each day and groom that dog each day. It will be exactly the same but you are taking on more responsibilty. Maybe if you start doing things with the dog you already have, they might see that you are ready for another one and you are going to take care of it.

You have a commitment to the dog you currently have. You don't give up on a dog and get another because it gets older, gains some weight or gets lazy. Try working with the dog you have, feed it less food, exercise it more and build a closer bond with the dog you have. If you want to show your parents how responsible and adult you are show them that you are not abandoning one dog in favor of a puppy,

a pet is a LIFETIME commitment..
YOU are obviously not taking that seriously if you dont like your current dog because its "lazy".. maybe the problem with your dog is poor food (any from grocery store is low quality and could be effecting your dogs health) or your dog could have health issues causeing inactivity...
IF you want to show you are responsible you would be taking care of the dog you already have and NOT asking for another...
a dog is a LIFETIME COMMITMENT - you are going to be moving out at some point and very few landlords allow pets - sooooo what happens to the dog you "want" so bad.. euthanasia???
why do you think your parents owe you a dog?? it is they who will be buying the food, paying for vet, groomer, emergency, etc....
if you really want a dog.. you will know YOU are NOT at a stage in your life where you can properly own one... save your money - move out and get your own dog...
it is TOTALLY unfair for you to be so hard on your parents and your current dog
PLUS everyone knows PETS ARE NOT FOR CHRISTMAS - they are for LIFE

hi, you added that your family dog is fit and just does not want to play with you. I have dogs all my life and from what I see it's usually not the dogs but the humans who cause the dogs react/act in certain ways. You have to know that dogs are very sensitive, they are not toys or slaves that has to play with you whenever you want/however you want. You have to make it a joyful thing for your dog to play with you, you should never annoy the dog -like when they're sleeping, dont worry when they are interested they wake up and come immediately :). If your dog is playing with another family member watch them closely and compare it to your actions and what you get. For ex. my dog is the most active playful dog you can see around here but he usually gets annoyed if the kids dont throw his ball when he brings it as fast as he likes -he is an impatient one:)-he gets annoyed-start barking and usually ends up leaving the game! But he plays with me until he gets tired or he sees a bird or smtg! why because i know how to interact with him not to annoy him. Play has to be fun for dogs. You can buy dog treats (like Iams biscuits) and try things that you believe he likes, for ex when he brings the ball give him a piece of treat (try not to overfeed him- break the treats in to pieces).. dogs are the most wonderful pet companions and they require and deserve good care. I advise you to read about them and experience the friendship with the doggy you have now. When you move on your own, you will get a doggy for yourself. Good luck!

tell them tat you will take care of um.....but if it soooo lazy then take it out for walks and get him/her in shape.(maybe get him/her into shape, so u can prove to them that you can do that) adn feed her/him less. and for as which one you should get i think you should get a weiner dog...its smaller and has less energy if you get a lab it will have a lot of energy and need to be outside longer 4 walks, hope this helpa, and that u get a new doggie!! luck, later

I'm not sure. I used to beg my parents for another dog but they never really gave me another one. And it is still living to this day...I'd suggest you just wait until after high school. thats what i did. But that's just my way of putting it. If you desperately want another dog, then just...prove it to them..you know, go beyond their expectations..and then guilt them!
