At a bare minimum 8 weeks, but our local shelter refuses to take them before they are 12 weeks. They really do need the milk and immunities they get from their mother until then. They also need the social lessons that they learn from their mother and their littermates. A kitten that has remained with their mother and littermates for 12 weeks is much less likely to have health and behavioral problems.

6 to 8 weeks - more is better...
younger than 6 weeks is crutial socialization time...
if you can wait to 8 weeks that is the best... any longer is difficult for her as nursing is hard on them too.. but in the wild cats would continue nursing for longer...

if you are giving the kittens away - they should ideally be vaccinated before leaving your home (2 -3 days before)
be aware that less than 20 % of "free to good home" kittens actually find good homes..
the SPCA or humane society will have a better chance because they screen potential adopters and ensure good homes...

Atleast 4 months. If they are taken away from the mother too early, the kitten will have a slower growth rate.

A kitten should be at least 6 weeks, but 8 weeks would be better and they need to eating well on their own.

THEY SHOULD STAY WITH THERE MOM UNTIL 8 WEEKS TO GET ALL THE NUTRIENTS FROM MOMS MILK. I HAVE SEEN HEALTHY KITTENS AT 4 AND 6 WEEKS OLD AND AWAY FROM THERE MOM, BUT IT IS BEST AT 8 WEEKS OLD AT THE LEAST.HOPE I COULD BE OF SOME HELP.

Generally, moggies can be separated from about 6 weeks onwards. However cats of certain breeds, and ESPECIALLY indoor cats, should only be separated from their mother after about 12 weeks of age. If cats are taken away too early, they can 'knead' (when you go to sleep, they come up to you, and scratch/rub you) for the rest of their lives.

About six weeks. The kitten needs to be weaned from it's mother's milk.
