Agoraphobia is a general fear of people: of crowds, of open or public places. This comes from the Greek agora, which is a marketplace, the term used to represent a place representing the public.

My husband has this.
It is literally "a fear of the marketplace". But in practice can be any place - any open place. any strange place. Any place where he feels trapped. large places. like supermarkets.
But this is very treatable with psychotherapy. Please get the help needed. Look up Dr. Phil. He says that phobias can be treated in 10 days (or something very short like that).
Good luck.
