I'm sorry if this seems like a stupid question--I'm really asking in earnest.

Do you have to wear your uniform to the Marine Corps birthday ball? Could an active duty male Marine wear a tuxedo or something similarly formal? Could a female Marine wear a ball gown?

I'm not saying they'd necessarily want to, but could they if they did want to?

Dress code for the Marine Corps ball is pre-determined, you are expected to wear your best uniform. Besides, a tuxedo looks like crap next to a set of dress blues.

The only way they would alow anyone to wear civilian clothes to a ball is if they didn't have enough interest in the event. I've only seen this happen once in the four years I've been in the army. I doubt it ever happens in the corps.
