I agree with you that they seem to be doing a great deal behind the scenes as well as rattling their sabers. Why would a country that has an almost unlimited source of oil need nuclear power? I suspect that Russia will be backing them, but not China. China will let someone else do their dirty work. Putin is a two faced liar of immense proportions. The main focus will be on Israel. The real question is what Russia gains by destroying Israel. This has me puzzled.
I am surprised at some of the naiive answers you have received. Yes, Iran has already stated publicly that a bloodbath is necessary in order to bring back their religious savior. isn't that just a matter of record?
Of course any nation or religion which seeks God's will to destroy Israel will be unpleasantly surprised.

oh i'M SURE it's really apparent...talking tough in front of tv cameras is one thing...as is Fox news showing Iranians cursing the USA ON TV...

While Iranian scholars, educated people(many studying from US universities) sitting down with the Iranian equivalent of the US Senate/Congress and doing all their sums and trying to explain to the Iranian head of state how a war with the usa will be the costliest and most devestating in their 2500+ year Persian/Iranian history and most likely to their culture...all because they don't like the US foreign policies...

...as the chief used to say to Maxwell Smart on Get Smart (tv show)...I find that hard to believe...would u believe Russia and China is backing them?! I find that hard to believe too...Russia benefits from American and European investment everyday and would not be caught backing anyone...China is only interested in development...as per their development boom...the only conquering they will be doing is on the stock exchange...

Look up the USA's GDP and their defence budget and therefore their ability to wage long term war compared to any country and explain to me how any educated dept of defence scholar would say let's go to war with them...with our (for argument's sake 10 nuclear mid range missiles) vs their(usa) thousands of intercontinental range nuclear missles...it didn't happen with all the psychotic hardliners on the us and russian sides for 50+ years in the cold war, and it's not gonna happen with Iran.

...no country will attack the usa, the ramifications are too high even if they could.

Not really.. I dont think Iran wants to actually subject its citizens to a world war... I think its more like "king of the mountain, spouting off"... They want to show America that America cant go around acting like the big bully shoving their ideals into every other culture on earth.. Its more a politcal dance than anything else...

Just what has this to do with 'quotations'. Stick to the politics page, I personally come to this section to avoid stupid questions like this.

I hope not. Geopolitical maneuvering is tricky at best and it is like guessing which way the wind will blow tomorrow.
