Tell me what the artist is trying to say to people who look at it (or what message is the artist trying to give to audience).

I think Joseph Wright was killing two birds with one stone- he wanted to showcase his talent for featuring a subject with artificial light, and at the same time show the awe humans of all ages feel learning about our wonderous Universe. It's a beautiful painting, great light, perspective, and a very interesting subject. I think the Orrey was something Wright was himself interested in or else perhaps he would not have spent so much time creating this wonderful piece. I don't remember ever having seeing this painting before, thank you for the link.

the artist wants to tell us many things.Maybe if his painting about MonaLisa ,so it means the painter wants to tell us that a woman smiled to the audince.Every painting has meaning.
remember that's why a painting can be so expensive.It has monetary,social,art values.
